It is easy to see for natural gas line and sprinkler system lines. Black pipe has no protective coating, so it will rust easily in wet or humid environments. How to protect the black steel pipe from rusting? Perhaps, a layer of protection on the outside of the pipe will be a good choice. In other words, you can paint it to protect it from rusting. In general, to apply paint in multiple thin coats is much more effective than applying a few thick coats.

First of all, prepare things you will need. You should prepare wire brush, rags, acetones, rusty-inhibitive primer, paint and so forth.

Second, remove the rust on the surface. You can use a wire b rush to scrub the areas with rust or loose paint or dust. Use a cleaning agent to wipe down the oily areas. Coat a thin layer of rust-inhibitive primer. Before you recoat with another layer of primer, you are advised to wait the primer to dry for recommended time.

Third, spray on your first layer of topcoat. To ensure even coverage, you are advised to move the spray from side to side.

Fourth, touch up the paint to prevent larger repairs down the road. Well, the rust can develop in the broken areas if the paint becomes damaged. This will lead to bad effect since it will begin to affect the paint around it and lead to crack, peel or other damage. Recoat it whenever you find there is a loose paint.
