Concept of Lean has been originated from Japan. For Henry Ford manufacturing system, when Toyota executives were trying to create a better match for its mass production. Its main focus is on the cost reduction in the mass production of identical products. The focus of the new production method is to eliminate waste. To describe the waste elimination process an MIT researcher first termed it as Lean in 1990.

In 1980s Motorola has developed Six Sigma. In writing for the Institute of Management in an online article, Douglas Ferguson said Lean is like a philosophy and the dynamic 6 Sigma is a program which can solve problems. Lean Six Sigma included lean philosophy, on methodology which emphasis 6 sigma. The approach is very different for Lean Six Sigma and Six Sigma. If you are a small business owner, before implementing organizational program in your business, you should know the differences in terms of cost, implementation and effectiveness of Six Sigma and Lean.

How employees can involveFor applying and developing solutions to specific problems in the production process a team is used in Six Sigma. Employees can earn martial arts white, yellow, green and black belt rankings through training and tests. These are the significations of their Six Sigma knowledge and skill levels. To work on a finite project executive teams of different rankings have been formed. Other employees used to wait to receive the information about changes and implementation. For creating a culture of learning and continuous improvement Lean gives its full effort. Each employee of the company is expected to update his knowledge and skills, participate in identifying and resolving problems and integrate the lean philosophy for reducing waste throughout the company. A small company which has limited stuff may have problems while implementing team approach.

Approaches are differentA methodology named DMAIC is used by the team of Six Sigma. It is like a series of words to analyze, determine, implement, control and measure. The team can apply and test works and any solutions in isolation for developing. Based on the observation Lean rejects the "front-loading" method of decision making. There are some short learning cycles by which Workers can engage in "knowledge creation". This is basically used to reveal problems and solutions through observation. To achieve goals and for continuous pulling process this observational methods are used. Lean is used for the improvement of the organization, whereas, Six Sigma is used for quick resolution of serious issues.

Goals are Different6 Sigma's application of DMAIC helps to measurable improvement in the process. These improvements reflect in goals of 6 Sigma such as decreased cost, fewer defects and improved quality. Waste can always be found in Lean Six Sigma’s company. While reaching the goal of customer satisfaction this method always needs to give a continuous effort. These efforts are done by streamlining the processes, increasing speed and improving quality. A small business can use Six Sigma to improve production values and Lean fsix sigmato achieve goals.
