The gate exam preparation is a challenge for all candidate. This article lists the changes for the latest Electrical Engineering sybllabus for students. If you are a student it will help you to crack the papers with confidence. The Gate preparation material always need to be checked before attempting it. Here is what you should know.

The topics added to theGate preparation material

As usual, a few topics have been deleted and in place new ones have been introduced. From this year, the online calculator also makes its debut in the exam halls. This means that no candidate will be able to take a physical calculator but will be allowed to use an online version provided by the authorities. Just run through this content which you will need to revise. As part of the gate exam preparation focus on the following topics:

  • Electric Circuits-Power and power factor in ac circuits.
  • Electromagnetic fields- Learn more about reluctance, magnetic circuits, Self & Mutual inductance of simple configuration.
  • Signals & Systems-Fourier transform
  • Control systems-Math model of P, PI, PID controllers
  • Analog & digital electronics-Demultiplexer
  • Power electronics-Sinusoidal pulse width modulation

There are no other special changes of note ans with these coaching and preparation for studies can begin in earnest.

Avoid studying following subjects

  • Electric machines-servo motors and stepper motors
  • Power systems-economic operation, solid state relays, digitla protection, HVDC and FACTS
  • Electrical & Electronic Measurements-Qmeter
  • Power electronics-basic concept of adjustable speeds ac and dc drives

Consolidate your time & effort

Every coaching class that focuses on Gate exams will offer students practice and some test other than regular lessons. You can also read books that will be useful as part of the preparations. For the year’s topics, some useful books include:

  • DC Motors and Control Systems
  • Modern Control Enginnering 3 sub Edition
  • Control Systems Engineering 5 edition
  • Elements of Electromagnetic 5th edition
  • Field and wave electronmagnetics 2nd edition
  • Signal & systems 2nd edition, 6th edition
  • Engineering Student Series-Signal and Systems by GK

There are nearly 10 subjects that need to be revised as part of preparation. They are subjects for specialization in future. If you plan at least three or four months in advance, you can study in a relaxed manner, giving time and effort to each subject. We have enlisted the subjects to focus, do an analysis to make a time table.
