4 Reasons You Need Awnings in Winter

Awnings for homes are usually set up during summer months for the sake of shielding homeowners' bodies against hot weather and strong sunlight and are a good option to have handy if you're interested in sunbaking but want to regulate the amount of sunlight your body is receiving. While these shading systems are often set aside during winter months, however, there are some fairly good reasons to rely on folding arm awnings that can remain set up during the winter as well. That they can be raised or lowered at a moment's notice provides them with a flexible range of uses that can not only safeguard your property but yourself as well, regardless of the season.

First, awnings are usually lowered during the summer season to minimise the expenses of their homes' internal cooling by keeping the buildings' interiors cooler during summer. During winter months, on the other hand, you can keep them raised for a period of time to allow the warmth of the sun's rays to gather inside your home, and then lower them back down; this will retain the heat currently inside your home because it will not be allowed to escape as freely through the glass expanses of your home. In this way, awnings can let you save on heating expenses as well as save on cooling expenses.

Second, households that keep awnings set up throughout the year will be capable of protecting their owners and their furniture from the sun's rays regardless of the season. It's important to know that most of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays pass through clouds and reach the ground even on cool and cloudy days, so even in wintertime you will need to keep protecting your skin against UV rays even if sunlight does not look like it's bearing down on you hard. As any amount of sunburn will increase the risk of eventually developing certain skin cancers, having shading systems set up at all times of the year can be as important to your health as using suntan lotion.

Third, demand for the installation of shade solutions for homes or businesses is usually highest in the early spring because homeowners anticipate the need to shade themselves from the impending summer months. What this means is that the winter season - when the demand is at its lowest - is the best time to install these shading systems because it's likelier to find a competent installer that isn't already occupied. Furthermore, the installer will likely be allowed more time to plan and implement the design of the project for your house, affording more opportunity for you to be involved in the planning process.

Finally, folding arm awnings carry an extra benefit if you keep furniture outside your house throughout every season of the year. Furniture that isn't kept safe inside a house or garage will be discoloured and worn out from direct exposure to sunlight, rainfall, and snow over time, even if the effect is very gradual. While you can carry all of your outdoor furniture somewhere inside your house or garage during wet seasons to minimise this gradual deterioration, some pieces of furniture can be quite difficult to move across fair distances. Having an awning set up during winter months will allow furniture that you usually keep outdoors to be stored within covered shade nearby without the need for a more solid roof, protecting them from direct rainfall and eliminating the need to put up with a potentially rigorous physical hassle whenever rain or snow appears in the forecast.
