We all are living in century where Gadgets are our other half. Laptops, Systems and Smart phones have become stuff that we can find out almost in every second home. People are so much relied on these gadgets that they can’t even think to keep it aside even for one second, in fact the last thing that we see before going to bed is our cell phone.

These gadgets can turn out to be of great help if we put them in good use. One such aspect where we can use them is Education. Mobile phones are really different from cart of net books because they are our Personal technology. Most students are investing their time exploring different horizons related to smart phones and one such prospect is related to studies. Cell phones have become prime source of education these days. Suppose you are sitting in classroom and you came across a problem that’s so tricky, certainly your teacher will help you out but what if the conflict goes on and on and you couldn’t find any appropriate answer. The best option at that time would be to explore your cell phone about the matter and solve problem concisely. However that is just one case.

Still the use of cell phone in classrooms is a big concern and merely there would be classrooms that allow use of cell phones during sessions. The other reason to really rethink about cell phone debate is because learning on the cell phone can extend beyond the walls of the school or the confines of a class period. Why we still have this mentality that using cell phones in classroom is crime?

In this scenario if we talk about pens, they also survived even the culture of passing notes without catching eye of teacher goes on. We didn’t ban pencils- when the possibility of poking it in someone eye was non negligible and what about that amount of paper that get wasted in schools without any reason- wasn’t that a crime? Now for what reasons we are prohibiting the use of cell phones in classroom when they can turn out to be really useful?

There are so many advantages of using smart devices in classrooms and the ideas are really wonderful.

RECORDING LECTURES: It’s a well known fact that hearing to a particular thing simultaneously leads to better understanding and perception of things from listening point of view. Many teachers are structuring their lessons in what’s being called as "Flipped classrooms". Teachers are recording their lectures using audio or video and students are listening to that outside class or taking help from it in their homework or we can call it as ‘Re-teaching’. It’s without a doubt is helpful for students as these Audio/visual clips will serve as a guide and reduce the need of hiring supplementary instructors.

DELIVERING MATERIAL: Blended learning is a process that doesn’t only engage different thoughts but also give rise to thoughtful learning. When people are brought together to solve problems in groups, they bring different information, opinions and perspectives. Through cell phones Teachers can directly share curriculum among students. Digitally they can deliver any important material to all students in one go. This creates a platform where all students can collaborate in discussions and chats making blended learning a real possibility.

There are some concerns which if taken care can really give boost to idea of Digital learning and it’s up to teachers how they deal with the idea of using Cell phones inside a classroom.

STUDENTS W/O CELL SMART PHONES: It’s not necessary that every student have cell phone, But this problem can be taken care by making groups and giving them tasks. This will help them in its own way.

• By working in groups together mutual understanding among students will increase.
• They can learn to break complex problems into parts and steps.
• Their understanding will be refined through discussions and explanations on similar topics.
• Their overall communication skills will be refined.
• They will learn to give feedback and judge performance of others.
• Overall this will be their overall development in terms of behavior, Social skills, Thinking pattern, psychological behavior and most commonly to be a better human being.

USE CELL PHONES APPROPRIATELY: However we are talking about the appropriate use of cell phones but we do know its consequences also. Hence it becomes very important to separate these two aspects in way that students can understand which one is beneficial for them in terms of their personal development. Here comes the role of teachers. Every student must be reminded everyday about appropriate use of technology and steps to be taken if any rule is broken.

Thinking about using cell phone in the classroom we need to make sure we involve our students in the conversation. Let them teach us about how to reduce the fear of theft or inappropriate use. W e need to help students understand the repercussion of things like cyber bullying, sexting and posting things to social networking sites.
