Churidar Anarkali
Posted: Jun 06, 2016
Deepika Padukone, Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan and you share something in common! Wondering what it is? The love for Anarkali churidars! This beautiful long flowy kurta that gently hugs your curves and goes into a flared skirt paired with a churidar bottom and a delicate dupatta has a very interesting history to it. Anarkali means pomegranate blossom and also the name of the legendary lover of Prince Salim. She was a native of Lahore, Pakistan and a dancer in the Mughal court when she met the eldest son of Emperor Akbar.
Mujra was a very famous art form in the ancient Mughal period and there were several entertainers in the court who would adorn themselves with Mujra dresses (the name of Anarkali churidars then), and dance their heart out while entertaining the members of the court.
Later the name was changed to Anarkali churidars to immortalize the beautiful love story of Prince Salim and Anarkali, the slave girl and the passionate way she used to dance.
Getting back to the present, an Anarkali churidar screams style and elegance like no other ethnic outfit. Floor length anarkalis in colors ranging from soft subtle tones to bright delightful colors with sensual necklines and gorgeous cuts have become very popular among the younger lot, especially during the wedding and festival season.
An Indian woman wearing an Anarkali churidar is the epitome of elegance and beauty because the fabric has such gorgeous work that it only requires minimum accessories, which draws attention to the lovely features of the woman wearing it and makes her stand out in the crowd.
The sleeves are usually longer on the red carpet and when worn by celebrities. Short sleeves add a touch of casual to the otherwise flamboyant ensemble.
The original regal and royal look of the outfit is maintained with its embellished neckline. A V neck should be chosen by medium or shorter women to add some glamour to their smaller stature.
A collared or any other kind of neckline will show case the charm of a taller lady.
Even brides these days are choosing to wear an Anarkali churidar on their big day because the grandeur it offers to your look cannot be matched by any other outfit. This blast from the past classic outfit is a must have in every woman’s wardrobe so pick one from our timeless collection and forget the accessories because a queen doesn’t need any!
