Having decided on a career in engineering, you will have to understand and accept the fact that now, ‘Rulers’ will rule your life. Any student carrying a drafter along with a regular tote-bag is sure to be pursuing engineering studies. The importance of it felt by all traditional branches of engineering like Civil, Mechanical and Electrical whereas it may not be much of use to the modern streams like Computer Science and Information Technology. While studying, you will be introduced to many other forms of rulers and each important for each function. Students are taught to draw with precision and to understand the importance of high levels of accuracy. A machinist ruler is fit with a roller so that it provides ease of movement, especially when used on a large surface. One need not remove it from the working surface but simply glide it to the desired position.

The triangular ruler is a hollow ruler which has three surfaces. It is just like the prism we all have seen in the Physics laboratory in school. All the three surfaces have marking and they are for different measurement. This ruler provides one with the comfort of more than one type of measurement.

Students of architecture have their life revolving around drawings. Architectural scale ruler is one tool they can swear upon. They have to take care of minute details and thus, use many more measurement aids than just rulers. Rulers help them to scale down the thing into many proportions less than the actual one. It is important to make a model in paper so that they understand the finer points. The scaling down can be up to 1:1000 or more.

A Traditional and a purist would still bank on drawing by hand. No doubt it provides one with the ease and independence to do as one wish. The flip side of it being space and time consuming. It is also difficult to transport from one location to another. Automation has changed the way drawings appear in front of us. A traditional drawing by an architect would hardly have any scope of the on-lookers imagination. A lay man cannot visualise the end result of that drawing. Today drawings are less on paper and more on the digitised method. Much software is available like AUTOCAD, CorelDraw etc. The vibrant colour schemes available make it easy to represent and the end result is self-explanatory. They can be carried and viewed anywhere.

Even a hand held mobile phone has the capability to display complex design on its screen. To use them it is important to learn the software. This could be necessary for an engineering graduate who can master the advanced version also. But a simple interior designer may be more lost in that software. To make things easier, an old school thinker may buy one that allows you to draw on the screen in traditional way which is captured and digitised by its internal process. The 2-D and 3-D effect incorporated in these software make it comfortable to express the idea without saying much. Custompromotionalrulers has many more things than just the complex rulers of use to the engineering student and professional.
