You don’t need to be a cheese connoisseur to love cheese or know everything about it. We all love to indulge in the occasional binge of cheese eating, be it on a pizza or nachos or a sandwich, our fast food is basically incomplete with a cheese dipping or a cheese side salad or anything. But did you know that mozzarella and cheddar are not the only varieties out there. There are actually many different types of cheese like your cheese sauce for nachos, or your cheese for pizza or your cheese for dipping and so on. So let’s learn about some basic varieties available in the market.

There is cheddar cheese, which first originated in a village in England called Cheddar, hence the name. This cheese is the most commonly known cheese after mozzarella. This is a semi hard type of cheese and colors vary from off white to dark yellow and sometimes even orange. Then there is swizz cheese, which is the general name for the many varieties that are produced in Switzerland. Almost all of these varieties taste the same and there is hardly any difference. They cannot be used to make cheese sauce for nachos and they are the kind that you see in cartoons with the big holes.

Then comes the smelliest cheese of all, the blue cheese. It is called so because it is cultured with penicillium that are found naturally in caves and other locations. It is also called as Roquefort after colonies of the mold penicillium roquefort, that are inserted into it. Some blue cheeses are injected with spores before the curds form and others have spores mixed in with the curds after they form. Different types of cheese also include feta cheese, which is considered to be the oldest of the lot. It was invented in Greece and is made from sheep’s milk.

Moving forward, another variety is the goat cheese and as the name suggests it is made from goat’s milk. It is especially common in the Middle East, Africa, and some Mediterranean countries. It has a very hard hitting and tangy flavor and is not the most preferred choice of cheese. Then there is cream cheese, which is a fresh type of cheese due to the fact that it is not aged. It is also available in different flavors and varieties based on different fat contents. These are different types of cheese that you find normally across the world.

Cheese in itself is such a versatile ingredient. It has different uses and can be used in different types of food products. Also, there are actually many health benefits of cheese that we are not aware of. It has high amount of calcium, phosphorus, zinc and proteins. One final type of cheese that be used for cheese sauce for nachos is the Monterey Jack, which is actually an all American cheese and is very widely used in America. It can be easily melted and spread on any food dish that you want to eat and savor.
