#HappyWednesday Today, we’re going a health and technology digest that features all the latest happenings around the world.

Reversing Memory Loss using Science

Every 66 seconds, a person from the U.S. develops Alzheimer’s disease. At the University of California, Los Angeles researchers have found a way to reverse memory loss through a technique that includes changes to their lifestyle and other treatments.

"Alzheimer's disease is one of the most significant healthcare problems nationally and globally," the researchers wrote in their published study, "The therapeutic approach used was programmatic and personalized rather than monotherapeutic and invariant, and was dubbed metabolic enhancement for neurodegeneration (MEND). Patients who had had to discontinue work were able to return to work, and those struggling at work were able to improve their performance. The patients, their spouses, and their co-workers all reported clear improvements."

When asked about the implications of their study, they were very optimistic about curing Alzheimer’s disease and reversing memory loss. "The magnitude of the improvement is unprecedented, providing additional objective evidence that this programmatic approach to cognitive decline is highly effective. These results have far-reaching implications for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, MCI, and SCI; for personalized programs that may enhance pharmaceutical efficacy."

Computer Researchers Make CPU with 1000 Cores

Scientists at UC Davis’ Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering have just created a super-efficient CPU that has 1000 cores.

"The energy-efficient ‘KiloCore’ chip has a maximum computation rate of 1.78 trillion instructions per second and contains 621 million transistors," the team claims, "To the best of our knowledge, it is the world’s first 1,000-processor chip and it is the highest clock-rate processor ever designed in a university."
