9 Reasons why a client will NEVER be satisfied with their results at a salon
Posted: Aug 02, 2016
Clients think, whatever the problem may be, a bad day at work, got dumped, super broke, maid dint turn up? They just need a trip to the salon. Hocus- Pocus! Sorted!
It’s not always that many of life’s problems have just one answer. To be precise just four words. ‘Trip to the salon’!
If anybody said money can’t buy happiness they never made that trip to the salon when they were in that low moment. A soothing head massage, hair wash, blow dry those tresses, colour those cheeks a pop of fuschia pinks on those cat claws…nails for the uninitiated and voila! Carpe’ Diem will be your new mantra!
But they forget, it’s a two way street. We can’t make them happy without some basic cooperation from their end. And its sad because in the end if the customers aren’t happy, we aren’t either!
Even then, we can have a few tricks up our sleeves, but for starters, to get all of these uplifting tricks right, it is imperative they pick the right place since the right place will also have the right people, the ones they are comfortable with. Striking the right chord with the stylist and the staff of any salon in general, is what brings about the comfort level between the customer and the person who will be helping them get into a blissful zone and make them meet the pretty redefined self.
What you as a professional or service provider needs to know that the clients aren’t aware of "Salon Etiquettes" and if possible, subtly communicate the following points to them.
It’s no secret that the way you look plays a big role in the way you feel. Psychologists have documented records to second this statement. Trust us.
We also recommend you spend few minutes, do the internet more good and find yourself loads of websites offering special discounts, coupons and much more on salon services of good standards. Gone are the days when food, clothing and shelter were the only basic necessities. Self – maintenance has joined the bandwagon.
With this well accepted lifestyle also comes the need for etiquette. By that, we would like to refer to our human nature of always expecting the opposite person to do their bit to perfection and in this case, we are referring to the stylists and salon staff in general. Like the old saying goes, it takes two to tango, you getting that amazing result when you walk in and out of the salon, also depends equally on the client/ customer behavior that you exhibit. Salon Etiquettes is the term coined for it.
Many of us may either have first -hand experiences or witnessed unpleasant moments at our salon visits. We at The Chairr have jotted down a list of things which will throw light on few such issues and also help sort or avoid them.
Here goes…
- Our Numero One – Always take prior appointments.
Staff at the salon is there to help you look and feel better but they cater to several like you. That puts them in a spot where they work against the clock. We live in crowded, traffic infested cities. A few minutes here and there till you or another client reaches the salon, time taken for services done etc, is all time consuming! So it is only right to let the salon know, about you gracing them with your presence and how you would want to get pampered that day. It only helps them slot their staff accordingly, make sure you have your favorite stylist right there for you and lets you have the best possible experience.
- The reason you took that appointment – get there on time.
On seconds thoughts, try to get there a little before time. We suggest you rather do this than arrive fashionably late, the salon starts work on the person who was waiting there and in the end you have to wait even more. Not to mention the whole mess it creates with tempers flying all over the place, which was supposed to be the place that was to make you look and feel better in the first place! You get the drift right?
Also, for any reason whatsoever, if u did reach on or before your appointment and still had to wait, be patient and treat yourself to the loads of fashion and beauty magazines the salons stock up. Perhaps you may just find the new look you want to try in there! Sometimes, a client before you may take a wee bit longer, just like you may do at times when you end up realizing your stylist is your Broddah from anotha moddah or your sista from anotha Mista! We all know how we tend to bond with the stylist, who swayed their magic wand and turned us into fairy-tale stuff, don’t we?
- Your cell-phone has a ‘Silent Mode’ option, it is true!
Until mankind creates super quiet blow-dryers and humans, let’s try and help turn down the noise pollution and show some courtesy to fellow salon-goers. Moreover, how would constant beeping and ringing of your phone ever allow you have a soothing and relaxing experience. If that’s not important enough, imagine the stylist getting distracted and making that luscious lock of hair you did not mutually agree upon chopping, fall to the floor! Sigh!
- Communicate. That’s Easy!
First, give clear directions and communicate with your stylist exactly what you are looking for. Get a confirmation from him/her of what they have understood, because what you say can be interpreted very differently. If you can be adventurous enough to tell the stylist to try something new, then be sporting enough to not frown if the final result isn’t as per your likings. Being vocal will ensure a complete service to your satisfaction level and communicating politely will motivate them to provide you a comfortable service.
- Tip number five, please tip your service provider.
Just a general thumb rule, always tip your salon service provider as a means to show that you appreciate and are happy with the service provided. Also, giving away a tip only helps you strengthen your rapport with the salon and ensure a good service every time around.
Myth: I’m ashamed to tip my stylist because she/he doesn’t look like they will accept it – This is a rubbish concept!
- Have kids? That’s adorable!
Imagine getting a hot oil massage and drifting into a blissful stupor, only to be disturbed by the shrieks of another client’s young children. If you can’t leave your kids at home please make sure you monitor them and make sure they don’t jump around or fidget with the things displayed at the salon. Not only is it inconvenient for other customers in the salon, it also stalls the service sometimes.
- The first appointment is like a First Date
Hair stylists recommend dressing up a bit when coming in for a consultation. It allows them to judge your panache and give you a style that is more of a natural instinct to you. Also be calm and patient with the stylist and let them get to know you more for a better service. It’s difficult when your date is a blind date, and in this case the chances are, you’re going to the stylist for the first time with no proper reference to what they are skilled to do. There is a way out of that, there are websites that let you see their work done with the exact mention of which stylist gave what look. Have a look at TheChairr.com, it allows you to do just that!
- How to avoid casual small talk
Avoiding small talk on a particularly hard day is better than ranting, just make sure to tell the stylist that you’ve had a bad day and they’ll take over without any conversation or you could also try closing your eyes during the service or try saying, "now I’ll get to relax in TheChairr". These are some polite ways to prevent any chit-chat
- Patience. Rare but required.
If you’ve come to a salon without taking an appointment, please wait for your turn instead of creating a ruckus about ‘quick service’ and how long the wait has been. A salon never turns down any customer and they always try to accommodate everyone in the best possible way.
If one keeps these pointers in mind, a visit to the salon can be made enjoyable for yourself and those around you.
