In Vitro Fertilization treatment Procedure

What is In Vitro Fertilization?

IVF (In vitro Fertilization) is a fertility treatment method in which the process of mixing of sperm and eggs takes place outside the body. The fertilized eggs are now considered an embryo and are then implanted back into the woman’s uterus.

Infertile couples are capable to get pregnant through In Vitro Fertilization treatment by joining the egg and sperm together in an embryology laboratory where embryos are produced and these embryos are transferred to the woman’s uterus.

Following steps in IVF Treatment Procedure:

1. Ovarian Stimulation

In general, the method of ovarian stimulation begins after the menstrual bleeding. The medications used by us are Gonal-F, Menopur to stimulate follicle development. These drugs are used to move the development of multiple mature follicles and eggs in order to enhance pregnancy rates with different infertility treatments.

2. Egg Retrieval

During the egg retrieval procedure, the eggs are removed from the woman’s uterus in anesthesia. It is a simple procedure.

3. Fertilization and Embryo Culture

After egg repossession, the sperm sample is cleansed and concentrated. Now eggs will be mixed with your husband’s/donor’s sperm and the dishes are placed in an incubator for one day and observe the development of fertilization. If the sperm appears normal then we can expect about 70 to 80 % of eggs to fertilize. The fertilized egg/embryos are kept in the incubator for an additional 48 hours. In case, the sperm quality is less than ICSI (Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection) is used as a part of your treatment arrangement.

4. Embryo Transfer

It is usually occurs 2 to 4 days after the egg retrieval. During the embryo transfer, a thin tube or catheter will be passed throughout your cervix.

5. Pregnancy Test

In general, the pregnancy tests will be about 2 weeks after embryo transfer. It concludes whether the pregnancy has occurred after the embryo transfer or not. These tests are usually repetitive two days later if positive.

The success rate of In Vitro Fertilization treatment in India depends on the number of factors together with age of the women, quality of embryos, number of previous IVF cycles and number of embryo transferred.
