Data is very important for a business. Everyone seems to understand this fact nowadays. It is no wonder companies are stumbling over each other in the race to get the most power database systems and management services for their data. There are the powerful systems in place and they are collecting and organizing data in impressive ways. The problem usually lies in making use of the data. It is not exactly the easiest of activities. You will need a team of experts in data analytics to assist you with this work. This is where companies like Tableau come in to save the day.

Tableau has been among the leading business intelligence and analytics companies for the longest time now. They are the people who will take your business’ data and make sense out of it. The company however has been suffering some issues with their stocks dipping dramatically since last year. Now that they have acquired HyPer they are set to get back into the game strongly. HyPer is a startup from the Technical University of Munich (TUM). They caught the eye of Tableau during an academic conference on database technology. Tableau has been watching the progress that the startup has been making over the past few years and now they have acquired them.

What is HyPer offering?

According to Tableau, HyPer is a diamond in the rough. However, the offerings that this company is bringing to Tableau are just so many. One of the capabilities that will be noted is the faster analysis of data. It does not matter the size of your data set you will be able to assess the data at a higher speed. This is a plus for many businesses that have been growing their big data assets.

This speedy data analysis also works to speed up the process of the transactional and analysis systems as well as richer analytics capabilities plus support or the semi-structured and structured data. This is increasingly important when you are processing the big data sets.

HyPer, like many other startup businesses in academia, was in its very early stages of being developed. They did not have any funding. There were no customers either. Tableau would not disclose details about the financial terms of the deal they made for acquisition. However they states that it was carried out as a non-material transaction which means that it was under $100 million.

Tableau’s plans for Munich

The team at HyPer comprises of two professors plus their four graduate students. The professors continue as consultants in the meantime while the four students will be forming a new research and development team for Tableau in Munich. The company has plans to expand this office as time goes by. Currently, the HyPer team is in Seattle at the Tableau headquarters. They are working with the team of engineers there to integrate the HyPer database technology into the product set offered by Tableau. This is set to improve the performance of the company in the stock markets significantly.
