The dissolution of a marriage can be a pretty frustrating, and heart breaking affair. Not to forget the million hour paperwork, court proceedings as well as legal formalities that one has to undertake in order to obtain a divorce successfully. However, contradicting these notions of divorce is the Divorce in Las Vegas in particular as well as the divorce in Nevada in general. The divorce in Las Vegas has come about as one of the easiest ways of getting a separation, and is being pretty sought after by a lot of people within the U.S for whom getting a divorce in other states would have next to impossible.

The state of Nevada has been known for its lax and easy laws since 1931, wherein it proclaimed three historical decrees. The first one was the legalization of gambling for which Las Vegas is the ultimate place in the world, the second was the construction of the Hoover Dam and the third was the initiation of easy and liberal divorce laws in the form of the divorce in Las Vegas and the divorce in Nevada which were difficult to find in any other parts of the country.

Divorce in Las Vegas can be filed in a pretty simple way. One has to prove to be a resident of the Clark County for a minimum of six weeks before filing the divorce papers. Once this has been done, the person has to wait for another six weeks to get the final divorce which is usually not a hassle if the petition has been filed properly. It is easier if both the parties file a joint petition for divorce, because getting the final divorce may be a little difficult if one of the partners is unwilling, or if there are children, which many a times can complicate the divorce case due to issues of child responsibility as well as custody related arguments. For people who are not good with paperwork and do not have a sound knowledge of how to go about the proceedings, they might seek help from the local divorce attorneys who provide assistance in filing and obtaining the divorce.

At times, the attorneys may also suggest that the couple may go in for an annulment of marriage rather than divorce for reasons of convenience. Annulment means the cancellation of marriage as if it never existed and hence absolves one of the legal responsibilities of marriage. This also takes a period of around six weeks to be successfully accomplished. Being drunk at the time of marriage, bigamy, or insanity may be cited as reasons by the couples seeking an annulment. The annulment aspect of Las Vegas marriage and divorce laws was also seen in the movie ‘ What happens in Vegas’, that starred Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz. The court, however, reserves the right to pronounce annulment or not. In order for a couple to be eligible for annulment, either spouse must be a resident of Nevada, or the state must be the place where the marriage has taken place.

These laws make for pretty easily obtained divorces and are hence pretty sought after.
