8 Easy Makeup Tips for Oily Skin
Posted: Jun 30, 2016
Makeup challenged by your oily skin? Well, yes, makeup can be so much harder to manage and maintain on greasy skin but, what’s a girl like you to do with all the beautiful makeup products available to make you prettier and happier?
How to put on makeup on oily skin
1. Exfoliate regularly.
Don’t wait up until you get an invite to the wedding of the century or to receive an Employee of the Year Award before you set aside time to exfoliate your skin. Exfoliation is a regular treat you give to your skin at least once or twice weekly depending on your skin type and the exfoliation technique you will be using. Exfoliation gets the dead skin cells and excess oils off of your skin. Treat with a mask whenever you can.
2. Prep for makeup.
Make your prep routine best suited for oily skin. Start by cleansing with a gentle facial moisturizer. Follow through with a non-alcohol-based toner. Alcohol dries up your skin, and when it does, it sends a signal to skin cells deep within your skin to produce more oil. This situation will make your skin tend to over compensate for lost moisture and therefore you will see more oil. Moisturize so your skin does not get that tight feeling that also causes more oil to surface. Use a sheer, lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer.
3. Keep the grease out of your makeup stash.
Favor water-based, lightweight products that let your skin breathe. Do not add another volume of oil to your already-oily skin, and worse, that additional grease will clog your pores, causing your skin to produce more oil. Arrgh!
4. Choose your makeup products wisely.
Go for products that give you a mattified finish. Look for "water resistant" or "long wear" on the labels. You need a more stubborn makeup to keep your naturally oily face from making your makeup products literally slide and melt.
5. Stay away from powdered foundations and concealers.
While it may seem obvious that powder must be your better option over cream-based makeup products, powdered products are made of very tiny particles of talc and minerals that can easily block your pore. When they do get stuck in your pores, your skin goes haywire, oil gets out of control, and your skin starts to look like an oil slick. You wouldn’t want that.
6. Use your brushes.
Forget the sponge. When you use a sponge, your makeup products tend to become pressed into and against your pores. Again, causing your pores to become blocked then, your skin over compensates the lack of air circulation by excreting too much oil. Whereas, the tendency of brushes is to sit the makeup on top of your skin as if creating an additional skin layer. Brush also works better in incorporating products to your skin so, who needs sponges anyway?
7. Conceal and prep your face for makeup.
After applying your water-based foundation, apply your concealer. Spot correct where you must, but also apply concealer on areas where you always see too much shine, that includes the high areas of your forehead, your eyelids and your T-zone. Applying concealer to your eyebrows will also help you prevent ‘vanishing eyebrows’ from happening to you.
8. Freeze and hold your makeup with loose powder or transluscent powder.
Check that these products are oil-free before using them. Finish your makeup with a quick dash. Don’t leave this product behind. Make sure to stuff it in your bag together with your broad makeup brush. Most tutorials on how to put on makeup for oily skin prescribe blotting paper. Unfortunately, it will only cause your skin to become greasier as makeup particles are forced into your pores as you press down.
Conclusion
Manage your oily skin better by following these tips and get to enjoy the glam and magic that makeup brings more. You don’t have to worry because those products aren’t going anywhere this time.
