Rajasthan is a state situated in North West India. Apart from its exuberant and exquisite havelis and forts, Rajasthan is also popular for being one of the largest cement producers in India. According to latest estimations, Rajasthan has the capacity for producing 38.8 million tonnes per annum cement. The cement industry in Rajasthan is flourishing these days and expected to grow even more phenomenally in the years to come.

How Cement Is Manufactured?

Cement is mixed with water and other aggregates to form concrete and is used for various construction purposes. There are many types of cement manufacturing processes in use today. The most commonly used process is discussed briefly below.

  • Firstly, the raw materials needed for making cement are obtained from a quarry; these include limestone rock, clay, shale, chalk, etc.
  • In the mill, all these raw materials are combined in the desired proportion & ground into a fine powder. This powder is then preheated and sent into a kiln where it is subjected to extreme temperatures. At temperatures as high as 1500* C, the cement clinker is formed.
  • Once this cement clinker cools down, it is ground into fine powder. In this process, Gypsum & certain other additives are also ground with the cement clinker to impart certain properties to the final product as per the need of the application for which it will be utilized.
  • The powder has to finely ground and the mix has to be homogenous. The powder finally obtained is what is known as "Cement".

In many industries while manufacturing cement, waste water is produced as a by-product. This polluted water releases bad odor. A lot of noise pollution is also created in many kinds of cement manufacturing processes. The above mentioned process causes less pollution. Many times, power station ash and also blast furnace slag is used to compensate for the unavailability of many natural raw materials.

Many cement plants make evident use of power management systems, solid fuel systems, and optimized cooler connections, etc. The use of cement is imperative for industries like steel and oil. It is widely used for making buildings, roads, flyovers, bridges, drainage system and all sort of infrastructural structures.
