Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is the most esteemed national level law entrance exam in the country. It is the common mode of entrance that provides a merit-list of candidates to participating NLUs (National Law Universities) to invite applications for admission in their graduate as post graduate programmes. At present, there are 17 NLUs which participate and hold this exam on rotation basis. These are deemed as the best institutes in the country for imparting law education, and have produced many eminent lawyers and judges serving in the Indian Judiciary and corporate world.

CLAT, has emerged as one of the most opted entrance exam by students passing out from school these days. It is not an easy one to crack, and therefore, many students even take proper coaching for it. Students who have passed their higher secondary examinations with not less than 50% (45% for ST/SCs and disabled) aggregate score are eligible to sit for the examination. The exam is held annually, most often in the month of May. The filling of applications begins in the month of January.

General Knowledge/Current Affairs 50

Elementary Mathematics 20

Legal Reasoning 50

English (with comprehension) 40

There is no negative marking in this test. However, the cut-offs go extremely high, and there is limited scope for chance answering.
