In Mumbai, the true hub of the Indian entertainment industry, one of the more severe complexities for Commercial Projects arrive when Casting is concerned.

It only takes ONE serious (even if small) role for a talented actor to gain recognition, but in case you have auditions for upcoming TV Serials, most casting calls become a nightmare to handle. This is because TV Serial acting is not as easy as some actors from other backgrounds may feel.

Most roles are generic, and the directors need to find the right sincerity, while the actors may need to suit into a role that they cannot naturally relate to that's Television often the launch pad of big acting careers.

This is why you need to specifically prepare for such a role before appearing at any auditions for upcoming TV Serials.

Here are 5 Key Tips for Actors when appearing for a certain role

#1 Remember that NO ONE will reveal the character they will only provide certain lines and the "Sketch" of a character. Try to take inspiration from as many similar characters you know of portraying the same nature but be sure to improvise. The Casting Directors have to feel that you will bring a new shade to their "Sketch", but leave it unchanged!

#2 You will always be provided the necessary lines to prepare when appearing at auditions for upcoming TV Serials, and the Casting Directors will accept Improvisation. However, DO NOT over do the artistic freedom beyond a level of what the Directors will accept. If your performance is marked as "Overacting"; you may have difficulty in getting roles in the future.

  1. Remember to take a note of the other possible roles within the same project. When the Casting Directors make a posting for auditions, they will possibly provide a number of available characters. Remember to apply for ONLY ONE role at a time; but try for 2-3 different characters. Re-Call, and alternative casting is common at auditions for upcoming TV Serials.
  2. If you don't have a solid Theatre Background, try not to apply for auditions directly. Even if you have acted in short films/advertisements; and considering that a large number of applicants come from modeling background, it is wise to join a professional theatre group or workshop for a few months and prepare yourself at performing in front of scrutinizing eyes.

#5 If you have experience as an actor; and you are not currently working at any project do consider well before choosing to apply in auditions for upcoming TV Serials. Remember, TV Serial roles are quite different from "Stage Acting" or Film Acting. Casting Directors are looking for consistent performers with a zeal to commit to a long term project.
