Gurupurnima day special – 18 siddhas Maha homam
Vedicfolks takes pleasure in performing 18 siddhas mahayagya on account of Guru purnima day. This full moon day is the most auspicious day sacred to Maharishi veda vyasa. Perform this homam with us on 19th July from 6.00PM – 11.00PM IST.
Agasthiyar:
Agasthiyar siddha is the most famous among the 18 siddhas. He is said to have learnt the language Tamil and Siddha medicine from Lord Muruga in Pothigai hills. He then became the head of Tamil Sangam and is said to have led the Sangam successfully for many years. His discoveries are recorded in the form of Palmleaf manuscripts.
Nandidevar:
Nandidevar is one among the 18 yoga siddhas. It is said that he was directly initiated by Lord Shiva. He has contributed to Medicine, Alchemy, and Kayakalpa. Thirumoolar, Patanjali, Dakshinamoorthy, Romarishi, and Sattaimuni are some of his eminent disciples.
Thirumoolar:
Thirumoolar’s Thirumandiram discourses on conquering Mind, soul, and body. He is said to have had 64 disciples of whom Kaalangi nathar is considered the best. His discoveries in Siddha medicine are capable of even curing myocardial infarction and depressive disorders. He is renowned for performing miracles and tantric rituals to cure diseases.
Bogar:
It is said that Bogar was born in China and came to South India in search of spirituality. He created Navapashanam a siddha medicine made of intricate herbal and mineral ingredients which on processing with the extracts of few other herbs will eradicate the toxicity. The assimilation of this Navapashanam can cure even chronic health ailments.
Konkanavar:
Konkanavar got his name from Kongu nadu (coimbatore), his native. He was born into a family of blacksmith so he was naturally good at forging metals. He was the one who started using copper extracted from herbs in siddha medicine. He was mentored by Sri Bogar and Agasthiyar which reflects on his astounding findings and miracles.
Machamuni:
Machamuni Siddha is also known as Machindranath or Matsyendranath. Scriptures say that Machamuni learnt all his Wisdom from Lord Shiva in the form of a fish when Shiva was preaching Parvathi near a Sea. He has also donated all his wealth to the poor in search of attaining spiritual salvation.
Goraknath:
Goraknath is famous for his supernatural powers, poetry, yoga and philosophies. Goraknath was the one who found the cure for Cataract. He is said to have lived in Sathuragiri hills where he compiled his work Chandra Regai. It is also said that he worked with Bogar in creating the secrets of Chidambaram. Goraknath was mentored by Siddha machamuni.
Sattaimuni:
Sattaimuni is said to have born in Srilanka where he lived with his family as a mendicant. Later he quit his life and moved to india because of his spiritual enchantment. Sattaimuni siddha’s rejuvenation medicine and his "Sattaimuni Karpam-100" is followed even today. Pambatti siddha is one among Sattaimuni’s renowned disciples.
Sundaranandar:
Sundaranandar is the disciple of Agasthiyar. The Sundara Mahalingam from Sathuragiri hills is said to be the shivalingam, which Sundaranandar got from Agasthiyar. It is also said that Sundaranandar was born to a rishi named Navaganda, who lived in Kishkinta. Sundaranandar learnt astrology, yoga and medicine from Sattaimuni Siddhar.
Ramadevar:
Ramadevar is also known as Yacob siddhar or Uromarishi who played a vital position in Tamil siddha medicine. He awakened his kundalini energy and opened all the chakras through meditation which united him with the divine. It is also said that once while he was travelling through the macro cosmic world he slipped into an Arabic country where he got sermonized by the Arabs and got the name Yacob.
Kuthambai:
Kuthambai siddhar is also known as Kudambai siddhar. His works discourse on the concept of "sound soul driving a healthy body." It is said that he was born into a family of Yadavas who dedicated his life to attain the attama siddhis. His works are acclaimed for its indirect deep meaning which emphasizes on spirituality.
Karuvoorar:
Karuvoorar belonged to Karur, Tamilnadu whose parents were in the business of forging God’s idols. This naturally made him more spiritually obliged which led to his involvement in siddha medicine, Siddha Gnana Yoga and Philosophy. He gained all his spiritual wisdom from Kamalamuni siddhar
Idaikadar:
He got his name from Idaikadu, the place where he was born. He was a shepherd by birth who while herding the goats became more obsessed with spirituality. Inspired by his spiritual thirst Sidhar Bogar agreed to teach him all the eternal knowledge. His philosophical style of poetry is renowned worldwide for its style and spiritual connotation.
Kamalamuni:
Kamalamuni was born in China who came to India for attaining spiritual enlightenment. He lived with Thirumoolar siddha at Kanjamalai in Salem where he discovered the plant Karunochi which has the powers of a rejuvenating medicine. It is also said that he discovered techniques to cure even chronic health ailments with mantras.
Valmiki:
Valmiki siddha is renowned for his work of arts. It is said that Valmiki helped Bogar in placing Lord Subhramanya’s idol in Palani. His work Vanmikapathinaaru is widely renowned. Valmiki encouraged the people to chant the Vedas and advocated on learning the ancient Vedas.
Pathanjali:
Pathanjali’s Yoga sutra is one of the famous works of Pathanjali which is widely adapted by western countries nowadays. According to Thirumanthiram Pathanjali was enlightened and mentored by Nandi devar. His works are renowned in both Sanskrit and Tamil. Sri Gowdapathar is one among Pathanjali’s famous disciples.
Dhanvantari:
Dhanvantari is the Lord of Ayurveda who has perfected rare herbal based cures and natural remedies for many chronic, complex diseases. He has learnt three lakh Kranhas and is also believed to be the pioneer of modern medical practices like plastic surgery. His most eminent disciples are Susruta, Aurabha, Vaitarana.
Pambatti:
Pambatti siddha belonged to the Jogi tribes of Western Ghats who had great expertise in snake charming. In his literary works he compares snakes to human souls. He is irreplaceable in transmigration and is said to have attained the attama siddhis. His most popular discovery is his antidote to snake bite. Sattaimuni siddha mentored pambatti siddha in channelizing his kundalini energy.
