Surendranath College : An overview

Surendranath College is affiliated to University of Calcutta and was established in 1882 and is recognized by UGC. The college is situated in Kolkata, West Bengal. Surendranath NAAC. This college was founded by Surendranath Banerjea and was formerly known as Rippon College. Surendranath college has complete glorious 132 years. It is one of the finest and oldest college of University of Calcutta.

The college currently offers various undergraduate courses from different streams like arts, commerce, humanities. It only offers under graduate studies. Currently, it offers B.sc (Hons), B.sc general, B.A (Hons), B.A general course, B.com (Hons) and B.com general. Besides these courses the college offered are certificate course in performing arts, skill development courses and value add courses which teaches about meditation, personal development, spirituality.

Admissions are done online, the Application forms are available till May end. The session for the college starts from June, the admissions criteria for all the subjects is 50% marks both in aggregate subjects. Students intake is over 400, and the total faculties are around 85. Fees of the college is generally around 2000. It has teacher's council which is headed by Dr. Indranil Kar, Principal The college has well furnished Library comprises of the large set of books.

Surendranath college has alumni network as well, it is a general body of an association, a student who has successfully completed their studies can be the member of this association. Some of the distinguished alumni of the college are Dr. Rajendra Prasad our first president of the republic of India, Nirad C Chaudhari a Bengali and English writer, Prof Dilip Bose an Ex. V.V Burdwan University, Prof Santosh sarkar an Ex. V.C. Jadavpur University,Samar Banerjee an Olympian Footballer, T. Ao the captain of Indian Football team in the 1952 Olympic. Farrukh Ahmad a poet.

College has separate placement cell, which gives overall guidance to the students. Candidates need to register for the placement. The college has an Anti-sexual harassment cell, an anti-ragging cell along with this it has a grievance redressal committee and women cell. It has Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) which is headed by Dr. Indranil Kar, Principal as Chairman along with some of the distinguished teachers.
