Camlin, Kokuyo Camlin is the leader in colour products. Formerly known as Camlin Ltd. it is an Indian stationery company based in Mumbai, India. Kokuyo of Japan has about 51% stake in Kokuyo Camlin. Camlin produces art materials, marker pens, fountain pens, inks, pencils, and other stationery products. Japanese stationary major Kokuyo, has presently acquired 50.74 per cent stake in city based Camlin Ltd. In terms of paper stationary and writing instruments the company has lagged. The firm has a limited presence in writing instruments in spheres like pencils, pens and ball-point pens though it has done well in markers. The firm presently is hiking capacity at its plants located at Taloja, Tarapur and Vasai in Maharashtra and Jammu respectively. It is also looking forward to increase its direct coverage of outlets. Kokuyo Camlin, also plans to look at setting up new plants in the future in both writing instruments and paper stationary. Currently, Camlin has two third-party manufacturing arrangements for notebooks in Maharashtra. Apart from increasing turnover they also wish to convert India into a manufacturing hub. The cost of production of stationary products is quite less in India as compared to China and Vietnam. Their long term plan includes getting India converted into a manufacturing hub which would lead them to export to markets in the Middle East and Africa.The Rs 10,000-crore Indian stationary market has come a long way in the last few years with the entry of writing companies Cello, Reynolds, Linc and Luxor, besides ITC, which has introduced Classmate notebooks and allied products. Other European and American stationary and art brands including Faber Castle, 3M and Staples are also trying to centralize their position in the domestic market. Kokuyo Camlin will initially push the Camel brand in colours, kokuyo Camlin share price in writing instruments and Campus in notebooks. The company has also renewed its board and has restored its corporate logo which would reflect the change in ownership.
