Sandstone is a sedimentary rock mainly composed of rock grains and sand sized minerals. Sand grains are subject to rains and winds. The grains are basically composed of various individual minerals such as quartz, feldspar, granite or slate. Furthermore, Sandstone is available in different colors such as brown, yellow, tan, red, pink, white, gray, and black. The Stones that are brown, red, purple, and pink in color are commonly called brownstone. Sandstones are also available in a variety of surface textures.

As mentioned earlier, Sandstones are subject to natural elements such as rains, wind and other such environmental factors. Therefore, sandstone cements differentiate from one type to the other in terms of color, porosity, durability and usefulness of the stone. For example, Sandstones cemented with silica are durable and hard whereas Sandstones cemented with calcite are rather prone to erosion. Clay and gypsum produce softer sandstones.

Those rock formations that are composed of Sandstone serve as petroleum reservoirs; the reason being the fact that they easily allow filtration of water and other fluids. Sandstone is an apt stone to filter out the pollutants from the surface as compared to limestone and other rocks. Sandstone is both porous and permeable thus allowing its use in filtration. Besides, Sandstone is resistant to weathering which makes it good for construction purposes. And due to its availability in a variety of colors and textures, it finds a number of applications such as flooring, decorating buildings, construction of paving, etc. Additionally, Sandstone is also quite popular for making sculptures, blocks, etc. Below-mentioned are some of the common Uses Of Sandstone:
