Subaru Australia has taken the decision to expand their Subaru Do strategy. This will involve establishing more retail and pop up stores in shopping centres across the country. Another aspect will involve mobile Subaru service providers to enhance the customer experience even further. What will this mean for the Subaru servicing customer?

The Initial Successes of the Subaru Do Retail Philosophy

The Subaru Do concept originated in Japan. The idea is to provide a service to customers that have already done their research. These savvy customers just want to take a test drive, fill out the paperwork and get on the road. This fast tracking of the car purchase process and been very popular in Japan and the uptake in Australia has been encouraging. The Subaru Do concept has already been in use over the last few months in the suburbs of Melbourne. A pair of retail locations in Preston and Hooper’s Crossing have already sold in excess of 500 cars. Subaru expect to open another pair of stores in 2016, and another six are expected in 2017. Subaru Australia Director, Nick Senior said of the move, the company works in a retail industry which has been "conditioned" by a century of retail experience he added. The challenge for Subaru is to "break that tradition",

Subaru Do Service Vans, Test the Feasibility of the Concept

Another interesting aspect of the Subaru Do program is the introduction of mobile service vans. The idea is to allow customers to get their cars serviced without visiting a dealer. One would imagine that this would be limited to customers booking a van to attend their home to service their vehicle. Of course, this is an option, but Subaru has bigger ideas on how to make the best use of their service van fleet. Service vehicles have already attended to the needs of corporate fleets at their company premises. In another bold move, it is planned to have service vans attend shopping centres so that customers can have their car serviced as the do their weekly shop.

A Nationwide Mobile Subaru Service Solution for the Future?

The blueprint for this kind of service vehicle is now available to roll out to interested dealers all over Australia. Each van has enough consumables on board to carry out six services per day. Subaru has stated that they expect to have at least ten service vans on the road before the end of 2017. One would expect there is an additional premium to pay for this kind of service, however at the moment that has not been the case. As the service rolls out, this may change depending on each dealership that decides to become involved. It may be the case in the near future, that Perth Subaru service customers have a very different kind of experience.
