Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) is conducted by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) to shortlist students for the MBA programs. The exam is a pre requisite by many good b- schools across the country to select students for further evaluation and selection process.

Earlier CMAT was conducted twice a year, once in February and then again in September. Candidates who have appeared for the February CMAT Exam were eligible to appear again for the September exam. The highest score used to be the final score of the student in the exam. This way, the students had an increased chanceof scoring better and thus getting into the college of their choice. Though, this twin chance of appearing in the exam was good, now the exam authorities and the exam committee decided to conduct the exam only once a year.

Last year the notification regarding the September CMAT was delayed. The exact dates were not out. It was then that the notification regarding only one exam per year came out. The students who were looking forward to appear for the september CMAT were asked to appear for the exam that was going to be held in January 2016. The main reason behind this decision was not revealed by the authorities. Thus, the CMAT exam was held only once in 2016.

Now, this year the exam will again be held in the month of January, 2017. The notification regarding the exam will be out in the month of August or September, 2016. The registrations will begin in the month of November 2016. The exact dates will be out once the notification has been released.

Cmat consists of four sections namely the Quantitative Technique and Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, Language Comprehension, and General Awareness. All these four sections has 25 questions each and the total time allotted to the exam is 180 minutes that is three hours. Each section carries 100 marks and there is a negative marking of 1 marks for every incorrect answer. There is no negative marking for unattempted questions. There is no time boundation in the sections and one can easily scroll in between the sections. The candidate thus have to manage their own time while attempting the exam.
