Uses of Stencils in Electronics

The term stencil might remind you of your childhood days of crafting beautiful drawings with colorful cutouts of plastic that would serve as a guide to create perfect shapes. With the advent of electronics engineering, the funny world of stencils is now industrialized, and has become highly technical. By definition, stencils are just a thin sheet of plastic or Mylar with some tiny holes cut out in it. They are used in electrical engineering for various applications. Used for PCB Assembly
Stencils play an important role in solder paste stenciling. In PCB (printed circuit board) assembly, the process designing circuitry uses stencils to create a basic framework, upon which a glob of solder paste is applied to eventually connect all the elements in place aboard the circuit board. A PCB stencil grants a specified template that runs over the PCB, and has an opening where the solder paste is to be applied.
