The air conditioner of a vehicle consists of a number of parts such as the compressor, condenser, evaporator, and clutch, among others. This post shall look at the air conditioning clutch.

How it Functions:

As you are probably aware, the clutch turns the compressor on or off as you switch the AC on or switch it off. The AC cannot function and provide cooling without its compressor, and the compressor cannot function without the clutch. When AC is turned on, the clutch alerts the compressor to start working. The compressor then starts to compress the refrigerant in the system. This creates a high pressure that increases the temperature of the refrigerant before it enters the AC condenser and evaporator and starts the cooling.

The clutch has a number of components. These include the clutch hub, the clutch pulley, the clutch coil, and belts. All these parts work as a unit to perform the task of turning on or off the air conditioning compressor.

Problems and Issues:

A common issue with air conditioners is that many times they provide only moderately cool air despite being at maximum setting. In such cases, you should check a few things. You should check if the radiator and condenser are working properly or if dirt and debris are blocking the AC condenser. You can also check the air filter for the same reasons.

If these parts are working fine, then the problem may be with the clutch. For instance, the suction pressure may be high, or the discharge pressure may be low. The mechanic would have to close the air gaps that may have come up between the hub and the pulley. If that does not work, the clutch would have to be replaced. Another reason may be that the compressor is delivering inconsistent pressure to the refrigerant. This again indicates that AC compressor clutch needs to be replaced.

Another problem may be when the AC stops working due to voltage issues. In this case, the clutch may have to be replaced. A malfunctioning AC clutch will result in overheating of internal parts, slippage between the hub and the pulley or the clutch coil not receiving the needed voltage.

A third scenario may be when there are problems with the bearings of the clutch pulley. This will result in a noisy AC system, and the only solution is to replace the pulley bearing.

How Do You Buy AC Clutch Parts and Other Car Accessories

Once you know that the AC clutch needs to be replaced, you can go online and check for the many clutch options from different brands. In most instances, the AC clutch is similar for different car models and the parts are interchangeable, especially if the car models are from the same manufacturer.

You can look for sites that give you good deals and while you are at it, also have a look at other car AC accessories and parts that you may need. In addition to parts such as compressors, condensers, and evaporators, you can also loot at vents, car fresheners, etc. that will help you make the best use of your car’s AC. Look for deals and discounts and other factors such as free doorstep delivery to get the most out of your online shopping experience.
