Over the past few years, the competition in plastic and chemical industry has increased multifold; as a result it has become difficult for business owners to find the right place to buy polymer products. Masterbatch are used with a wide range of polymers to assist in enhancing the color and physical properties of the carrier.

Black Masterbatches are used for the manufacturing of medicine & in the beverage industry. With the use of UV stabilizers and absorbers, a Black Masterbatch helps in preventing the loss of moisture, taste and color of food. Today, they are also widely utilized in the automobile and electrical industry as well.

How Is Masterbatch Produced?

There are two different methods of producing masterbatches:

  • Single –Stage Process: In a single stage process, all the components are combined in a single processing step. This process is initiated through a premix setup or via split feed setup, where each component in fed into the system by means of a feeder.
  • Two-Stage Process: In this process, single pigment concentrates are produced in the same way as in the first stage. However, within the first step, a second extrusion step is used that combines the ratio of the colorant and additive single pigment. The masterbatches here can be customized as per preference.

Uses of Black Masterbatches

Black is amongst the most popular color choice in the market. A Black masterbatch is used to turn the desired polymer black in color. Being high in qualities like high dispersion, UV protection, Blue tone and conductivity, a Black masterbatch maybe used in:

  • Cast film,
  • Blown film, fiber
  • Geo Membrane, etc

In comparison to paste, fluid additives and powders, Masterbatch provides a much better process stability. When heated to 200°C, color changes occur in a matter of 15-20 minutes; a Masterbatch can easily disperse without leaving any marks. A Black Masterbatch may be divided into two main categories:

  • Additive Black Masterbatch: Additive Black Masterbatch helps in changing the physical and chemical properties of the carrier polymer. Some of the applications for which Additive Masterbatch is used include imparting flame retardant, antistatic and UV stabilizing property to plastics.
  • Filler Black Masterbatch: As the name suggests, a filler black masterbatch is stuffed with fillers like chalk, etc. to enhance its properties.

Black Masterbatches are latest introduction in the line of powder, fluids and paste that not only adds color to a plastic polymer but also changes the properties and increases the UV stablizers within the polymer.
