How to Check Your Blood Pressure With a Sphygmomanometer

Blood flow increases with the increase of heart problem in person. Systolic blood pressure => 140 mmHg or Diastolic>= 90 mmHg. It is risky for the health. It can come to a standard with regular practice as it may help the blood to flow from the body. Today in this busy world, everyone is in stress regarding the health of the heart. Today heart disease occurs at the age of 30-40 age people.

With the irregular life style, today people are suffering from heart disease from the age of 20 and this is giving birth to blood pressure. To keep an eye on blood pressure sphygmomanometer is designed so as to add advantage to the patient and give them a healthy life.

There are three type of Sphygmomanometer which is used to measure blood pressure.

Sphygmomanometer is of-

  1. Mercury
  2. Aneroid
  3. Digital

It helps to read blood pressureby auscultation which is considered as gold standard by the Heart, Lung and Blood Institute of the NIH.

Here are the steps which are used to check blood pressures with a Sphygmomanometer are as follows-

1. Setting Up the Equipment

  • Open the Blood Pressure testing kit
  • Raise your arm to heart level
  • Wrap the cuff around the upper arm
  • Cuff should be properly tied
  • Place the wide head of the stethoscope on the arm
  • Clip the pressure gauge to a stable surface
  • Take the rubber bulb and tighten the valve

2. Taking the Blood Pressure

  • Inflate the cuff
  • Release the valve
  • Note the systolic blood pressure
  • Note your diastolic blood pressure

3. Interpreting the Results

  • Understand the Reading showing on
sphygmomanometer

The tests to improve the health of the heart are-

  • Check the Blood Pressure
  • Check the Cholesterol Level
  • Keep the check on the food
  • Know the history of your family, if there is anyone in your family having heart problem.
  • If a person has the heart problem and have the cholesterol level, than a person has the more chance of the heart disease.
  • Blood pressure should not exceed 130/85.

Know when to contact the doctor and start the treatment from a specialist. Check it properly and take medication as per the prescription of doctor.
