A central figure in the Hindu epic Ramayana, Hanuman is a devotee of Rama. Some texts even say that Hanuman is Shiva’s incarnation. This monkey deity is known for his selfless and faithful service, courage, and power. You can find many Hanuman statues in different forms and positions.

A Hanuman statue that is sitting in a meditative lotus position can bring happiness, prosperity, and total peace. This position also means contentment and abundance. You should also take notice of Hanuman’s mace. In a sitting position, his mace should be on the right side of his body; the pointed end should be in full view.

Hanuman Gada is usually carried by Lord Hanuman by his right hand, symbolizing the power to rule, authority of governance, and self-sovereignty. The mace itself represents life in all its concentrated form. It is a sign of radiance, virility, physical strength, and bravery.

If Hanuman is in a standing position with the mace on the right hand in an upraised position, it can mean controlling powers are needed to bring normalcy into a situation. Now, if the mace is in a lowered and relaxed position, it can mean contentment and orderliness in society.

Most Hindu deities come in a form with multiple faces and ligaments, and Hanuman is no exception. Sri Panchamukha Hanuman is a very important deity in the Ramayana. You can find statues of Hanuman in this form bearing the face of an eagle, horse, lion, boar, and of course, the monkey. This type of statue also has ten arms and wields weapons like swords, holds a flag, and even a human head.

Each face of Sri Panchamukha Hanuman has its own significance. Facing the east is Sri Hanuman who grants success and purity of mind, facing the South is Narasimha who grants fearlessness and victory, facing the west is Garuda who removes poisons and black magic, facing the north is Varaha who showers wealth and prosperity. Finally, facing the sky is Hayagriva who gives good children and knowledge.

It is fairly common to find different Hanuman statues in Indian homes and temples. Today, you might even come upon Hanuman statues in different forms in Western residences and commercial areas. You can find Hanuman statues made out of wood, gold, brass, and even embellished with precious stones like turquoise and coral.
