Neurology is the branch of medical sciences which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of the nervous system. It is the most complex branch of medical sciences, as many phenomena of brain is still unknown and yet to discover. Scientists have been continuously doing research on neurological diseases like Epilepsy, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and many others. Some of the common neurological diseases like: headaches, vertigo, epilepsy and neuropathy are usually treated only on the out-patient basis with better treatment response.

Researchers have been so far successful in discovering many genes and proteins of the human nervous system. Recently, the discovery of neuroplasticity which is the ability of the brain to rewire itself by forming new neural connections throughout life has sparked a new transformation in the field of neuroscience. Computational neuroscience, Imaging and Genetics have also added new area of research in findings of structure, function and role of gene in neurodegenerative diseases. On the other hand, it a bitter truth that, Neurology is the least opted medical branch opted after MBBS to groom their career. The reason behind this option may lie behind the neurology branch as one of the most weird and toughest topic in medical world.

The pillar of neurology in India was established by Dr. Eddie Barucha, who was the first practicing clinical neurologist in Bombay in 1951. Today around 6-8 million peoples are prone to neurological diseases with 1-2 millions suffering from stroke. And irony is that, there is only 1 Neurologist available for 10 lacs people who are suffering from neurological disorder in India.

Recently, Doctor jobs in India in India have taken a sharp leap, defining increased number of neurological related diseases. To become a Neurologist, the required candidate should have MBBS degree with MD in Medicine or DNB course along with DM in Neurology to enhance their skills in this field. In India, majority of Neuro-practitioners prefer to continue their profession as general neurologists. But due to high demand of neurologist, the candidate prefers to do fellowship in a sub-specialty in country or abroad, which offer advanced training in their respective area of interest. Some of the notable institutes which offers Neurology related research subject in India are: National Brain Research Centre (NBRC), Centre for Neuroscience (IISC Bangalore) and Indian Academy of Neuroscience in India.

When it comes to Medical jobs in India, there is a bright career option for Neurologist, as in these recent years Government has opened many neurological research centers in India. This will surely unlock many career options for Neurology jobs in India. Days are not far when neurological diseases rates will be minimized with the combined effect of Researchers and Doctors.
