HOW WE MET We both attended the University of Nebraska Medical Center for our Doctor of Pharmacy degrees. Although we spent two years taking classes in the same building and attending the same social events, we never met! Our meeting was thanks to James’ cousin and Anna’s best friend from pharmacy school. All it took was one double date and the rest was history!

THE PROPOSAL After spending the day poolside on the 4th of July with family and friends, we shared a romantic dinner at our favorite restaurant. We then headed to Champions Run to watch the fireworks on the golf course. Once the fireworks began, James insisted we move the blanket to improve our view. After Anna gathered her belongings, she turned around to find James down on one knee asking her to spend the rest of her life with him.

FUNNY FIRST LOOK We had our first look in the back of the church beside the fountain. The photographer asked Anna to walk down the aisle from the front of the church while James waited in the back facing away from her. On the first try, the Father of the Bride saw Anna walking down the aisle by herself, and not realizing what was about to take place, joined her on her way to see James. On the second try, Anna’s tulle ball gown resulted in a bit of a trip, but by the third time, as James waited ever so patiently, despite all of the commotion and giggles behind him, Anna successfully made her way to the handsome groom.

I SCREAM, YOU SCREAM We were married on July 17th, which also happens to be National Ice Cream Day! Following cake and cupcakes, we invited our guests to join us poolside for an ice cream sundae bar! As the heat index for the day topped over 100 degrees, nothing could taste sweeter than sharing ice cream sundaes with our closest family and friends at the end of our day.

IDEAS WORTH STEALING CEREMONY: We had the flower girls hand out white roses to our guests as they walked down the aisle rather than throwing flower petals. The Wedding Coordinator at Saint John’s gets full credit for this fabulous idea. It cut down on clean up and allowed our wedding guests to be part of our ceremony. CHURCH DECOR: The church fountain was adorned with flowers in memory of our loved ones. It was the perfect setting for our first look. FAMILY GIFTS: We gifted the Mother of the Bride and Mother of the Groom personalized necklaces from us. They absolutely loved them and both wear them regularly for special occasions. The Bride did such an excellent job wrapping her Mother’s gift that she did not find it until after the wedding when she was sorting through wrapping paper!

WHAT HE SAYS ABOUT HER I cannot imagine my life without Anna. She is the best thing that has ever happened to me.

WHAT SHE SAYS ABOUT HIM I never imagined in my wildest dreams I would be married to such an amazing man! He truly is a gift from God.

WE ARE THE BIRDS Our married last name is "Bird," so we incorporated a lovebird emblem was designed for our rehearsal invites, seating assignment display, and reception program. The flower girls wore feathered hairpieces, and our vintage champagne flutes had feathers tied with a gold ribbon. Our guestbook was a large poster of lovebirds in a tree with leaves for the guests to sign and is framed and on display in our new home. The unity candle that was lit during our ceremony also displayed a feathered flower, and last but not least, our wedding cake had a bride and groom bird, complete with a wedding veil and top hat perched atop a three-tiered gold wedding cake.

PRESCRIPTION FOR HAPPINESS Since we are both pharmacists and met through our mutual pharmacy friends, we thought it would be fun to incorporate a pharmacy detail into the wedding. The apothecary jars served as place setting cards and guest favors. The prescription label read "Rx for Happiness – The Pharmacists Anna & James Bird," and "Take KISSES daily with HOT TAMALES and SWEET TARTS" "Do not combine with WAR HEADS or ROCKY ROAD." The jars were filled with sweet treats for our guests: Hershey’s Almond Kisses, Hot Tamales and Sweet Tarts of course! We ordered the jars online and had Cornhusker Beverage and Bridal design the Rx label. It was one of our favorite wedding details.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE TIME I wish someone would have told me to have someone (other than the Bride) watch the clock for you on the day of your wedding to keep everything on schedule. Being on time and keeping everything going is very important and prevents stress later from being behind schedule.

BEFORE MARRIAGE, I NEVER KNEW JAMES … was such a fabulous cook! Our favorite pastime during our courtship was our weekend dinner dates! Each week we would try out a new Omaha restaurant. I had no idea what fabulous culinary skills James had until we had our own home!

VINTAGE SILVERWARE The Bride’s 100 year old grandmother gifted the happy couple her favorite set of silverware, which the bride and groom now use on special occasions.

POP THE CONFETTI Our favorite memory from our wedding day was our confetti send-off at midnight! It was the perfect ending to celebrating our special day with our loved ones.
