It takes a colossal dream to be successful

Dream is not what you see in sleep, it’s the thing which doesn’t let you sleep.

Aptly put down by late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India and a pioneer in aerospace engineering, a dream is something that should transformed into a vision, a goal and a desire that defines your road to success. Dreams are necessity as without them; there would be no ambition, no goal to chase and no success to achieve. It is disappointing when people lose faith in dreaming to come into terms with reality. Well, there is really nothing wrong to accept the hard reality of life, but it’s the dream that keeps us going. It’s about being grounded and thinking straight at the same time.

It is also important to understand that our life is a mix of wins and losses and they always seem to balance up. It is the dream that keeps us optimistic. For some, it may be being able to buy a new house across the riverfront and for others; it may be about adding a new product line to their brand. Whatever be the scale, dreams are powerful and make our life less mechanical and more human.

Many of us pretend that he last night’s dreams have been but meaningless narratives, triggered by a plot we saw in a movie, an idea that had us thinking for a while last evening or random thought that are better forgotten. However, there have been increasing significances that dreams aren’t mere babbles but have a deep substance within. They are actually distillations of a messed up mind and regurgitation of experiences and ideas we seemed to have forgotten on the way. As we continue on striving towards success, we should be letting out these imaginations run wild and you might pick up some amazing cues altogether!

Dreams let you chase a goal

As already said, it is our aspiration for the future that makes us human. Otherwise, we would be no different than programmed robots. Now, the bigger the dream, the more the little steps you need to take towards it. It doesn’t really matter whether your reach – it matters that you tried.

Dreams inspire you to aspire more

It is only human to want more. When you have your goals set, you will also teach yourself the ways to reach it. The achievement of those small steps, one at a time, is perhaps the most satisfying feeling ever and alongside all of this, it always expands the horizon. Without a dream, you wouldn’t have even been able to make those small achievements that few ever accomplish. It is the big dreams that allow you this amazing experience.

Dreams for innovations

How do you think smartphones came into picture? Someone must have dreamt about connecting the whole world and worked on it. Be it a big brand like Apple or a small local startup, there’s a dream behind. That’s has also been why Sara Blakely came up with the Spanx! She dreamt about underwear that would have looked nice under white pants.

Dreams to pace up the community

Vasco Da Gama dreamt about getting to new places and bringing back new experiences. That had been his drive to venture into foreign lands and map out the world. Over the ages of human history, sailors, poets, artists, scientists, travelers, kings, politicians, etc dreamt about something that they believed should be achieved and today, they are all a reality. Dreams are the only way to envision a better future and work towards it. Today, if you are dreaming about flying to Mars someday, you might as well be working in a direction that would gradually open up unknown opportunities.

Dreams for a purpose

Martin Luther King Jr. dreamt about a society where everyone is treated equal and humanity is restored in this troubled world. He worked on his vision and made the world a better place. It doesn’t matter if he was able to completely heal the society but he certainly inspired many to follow his footsteps and take over his dreams, visions and goals after him.

Dream to reach your full potential

If you believe in a dream strongly, you will use very resource available to see the end. People have pushed themselves to extents that an average person wouldn’t ever think he would be capable of. Good politicians dream about a better country, good photographer dream about a great frame in every picture, good singers dream about music everywhere, good scientists dream about unlocking the unknown and likewise. We all have our own dreams and each one is an absolute till you are ready to work on it.

Dream to never back down

Dreams have been the drive that has set the wheel of progress in motion. We humans are inclined to get curious, but only about the things we admire. When you dream about something and start thinking about it all the time, ideas automatically comes pouring in and we have always got ourselves the tools to turn these ideas into reality.

Without dream, there would be no hope and without hope, a man would be less of a man. As the famous lines go, "hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things and no good thing ever dies". Never give up on your dreams, howsoever big or small. It is important that you wake up with the dream and work for it. Dreaming gives you the attitude of a winner necessary to be successful in every part of your life. Be it a small farmer or a scientist from NASA, it is the day’s work that define a man’s dreams. This would be more agreeable when you know that Jan Born, a neuroscientist from the University of Lubeck says that dreaming sets the stages for the "emergence of insight" and allows representing old ideas in new forms.

It is therefore important that you never stop dreaming and while you are at it, make it colossal!
