How We Designed our First free WordPress Blog Theme for Blogging Websites

As a newbie blogger, whenever we start thinking of developing a modern looking, mobile friendly blogging website, the first question which comes in our mind is from where to find a free WordPress blog theme? There are literally thousands of Free WordPress themes available at WordPress.org, but picking a perfect one is really very time consuming task. And because of this, we end up either changing our decision to not going for the website development or hiring a freelancer to develop the website for us. In later case, we end up paying thousands of dollars and several hours in developing the website which we dreamt of. But still, most of the times, we don’t get the result as we expected in the beginning.

We at IndigoThemes, also faced the same problem and we’ve been approached by tens of clients who were in the same situation as described above. Hence, we thought of developing a free WordPress blog theme which could help all such users who desperately need a solution to make their dream of having an awesome blogging website, to come true. And the result was BlogIM WordPress theme.

We developed this theme and added loads of features to it. At every stage of development, we ensured it matches the modern trends of website development. We considered top marketplaces like Themeforest for analysis. We tried our best to design something amazingly awesome. After several iterations, we finalized the current BlogIM design. After the design was finalized, we started working on making it mobile responsive i.e Twitter Bootstrap based HTML/CSS development as we knew the importance of mobile responsive websites as knew how now a days, most of the website visitors come from mobile and not PC/Mac.

After the HTML/CSS were ready, we started the conversion of those into a WordPress theme. It took a few weeks and finally the BlogIM theme was ready to be submitted at WordPress.org. We submitted the theme there and after waiting for 3-4 months, we got our first reviewer. After several stages and submissions, finally BlogIM got approved by WordPress.org team and currently it’s used by over 700 websites.

After going LIVE, several clients asked for some more features which needed a couple of weeks of further development. Hence we thought of developing a PAID version of BlogIM for users who want to make money from affiliate marketing/promotions etc. We called that theme as BlogIM Pro. We added several features like hundreds of Google fonts, Unlimited color options, multiple types of sliders on the home page, Custom post of BONUES, share and earn feature and many more. We sold over 100 copies of BlogIM pro in just 7 days of its launch. Still several copies are getting sold per week.

Our main purpose behind the development of BlogIM was to develop a premium looking free WordPress blog theme for bloggers who struggle to find a nice theme for their blogging websites. Now our team is very happy as we’ve successfully developed a solution which is now used by hundreds of happy customers all across the globe.
