CGL Exam is held to recruit manpower in "Group-B" and "Group-C" posts in various central government departments of Government of India. Initially, recruitment for these posts was conducted individually by SSC. But from the year 2010, all these exams have been combined and CGL exam was initiated. Bachelor’s Degree is the minimum educational qualification required as eligibility for this recruitment exam and it is called "Combined" as this exam was formed by merging a number of individual graduate level exams, which were previously conducted by SSC for various departments of the Government of India.

In this competitive world, everyone is trying to secure a prestigious government job. SSC conducts CGLE i.e. Combined Graduate Level Exam every year for 29 posts in central government. CGL exam is a well known competitive exam across India. Students start preparing for CGL exam after completing graduation. Around 10 lakhs student appear for this exam every year.

CGL exam is conducted in three tiers. A candidate appearing in CGL exam is required to clear Tier I exam first. After passing Tier I exam candidate is allowed to appear in Tier II exam. Merit is prepared on the basis of marks obained by the candidate both from Tier I and Tier II exam. If candidate is shortlisted for the next round i.e. the interview, he/she will have to appear for interview of 100 marks. Final merit is prepared on the basis of total marks obtained out of 700 marks and job is allotted to candidate according to preference and rank scored in exam.

The exam pattern is as follows: Tier I – Question paper will carry 200 questions of 200 marks. All the questions are of multiple choice nature. Duration of the exam is 2 hours and negative marking of 0.25 is applied on each wrong answer. Tier II- Both papers are of 2 hours duration. Negative marking of 0.25 will be applied on each wrong answer in this exam too.
