Solving the Problem of Squealing Brakes in Chevrolet Vehicles
Posted: Jan 12, 2014
Technical problems can arise in almost any vehicle, in Chevrolet cars also, even if they have been performing quite efficiently from a long time. In fact it is quite common that a vehicle which had been running quite properly, suddenly gives out high pitched squeal. This squealing actually comes from the brakes of the vehicle and the only issue is that the problem would not just solve by itself, but rather would have to be resolved.
There is no doubt the squealing of the brakes is quite a frustrating problem for the Chevrolet vehicle owners, but due to the fact that most of them misunderstand it, it actually becomes harder to solve the problem. Thus here we explain what actually causes the brakes of a car to squeal along with tips which would be helpful to inspect the problem.
The main misunderstand among car owners, is that the squeal noise comes due to the wearing down of the brake pads. That in fact is not true; rather vibrations are the cause of the squealing noise. Brand new vehicles, such as those from Chevrolet, in fact have anti rattle clips which firmly hold the brake pads in place. Thus, when these clips lose their firm grip and the pads get loose, they begin vibrating and cause the annoying, squealing noise.
Glazing is another reason that such a squealing noise is coming from a Chevrolet vehicle’s brakes. When the surfaces of the rotors and the pads are exposed to extreme temperature they become immensely hard. Thus, these hardened surfaces of the pads and the rots rub against each other causing the squealing noise.
Another possible reason for the noise is glazing. This occurs when the surfaces of the pads and rotors harden due to repeated exposure to excessive temperature. When the hardened surfaces rub together, they generate the noise.
In any case, when the brakes of a Chevrolet vehicle are making such noises, the vehicle could be taken to a mechanic or the car owners can even check the breaks on their own.
Firstly the brake fluid would have to be checked if its level is low or has it become discolored. While, these are not the sole cause of squealing brakes it is better to begin by checking it. Secondly the tire which is making the noise should be removed so that the brake pads could be examined. Checking the brake pads enables the car owners to ensure whether the pads have worn down of if glazing has occurred. In any of the case, the brake pads of the Chevrolet automobile would then have to be replaced. Often the rotors might appear a bit warped due to scarring and not enable them to be smooth again they would have to be resurfaced. If the anti rattle clips are damaged or broken, they would also have to be replaced.
Replacing the anti-rattle clips and shims is rather quite easy in order to stop the brakes from squealing. Doing these replacements in their Chevrolet automobiles would actually save the car owners quite some money.
