Do you want to maintain the maximum efficiency of your freezer and avoid unnecessary appliance repair costs? There are so many bills we have to pay already. Extra repair costs are something we just don’t want to hear about. Well, if you don’t want to bear such costs, better listen! (or just read this post).

Here’s how you can fix minor issues in your freezer and avoid appliance repair company costs. Bonus: Also, find a few tips to improve its efficiency.

1. Defrost regularly

Most of the freezers these days have an auto-defrost feature. If you’re still using an old model of refrigerator, then make sure defrost every two weeks. You may need to raise the frequency if your freezer is piled up with ice or that snowy thing you don’t want to touch. You might need to scrape some of it off after defrosting but be careful! Don’t use any sharp object for that purpose.

2. Clean the pan

There must be a pan behind your refrigerator where all the moisture and water goes after you defrost. Eventually, that pan fills up, and you’ll need to empty it. Here’s the thing: if you defrost regularly or if you have spilled something like milk inside your fridge, that pan will start emitting an unbearable stink in about a week. You will certainly not want to clean it then so clean it before such a dreadful situation happens.

3. Clean the coils on the back

While you switch off your refrigerator and turn it to take out the pan, also brush away the dust on the coils. Be very gentle and make sure the electricity is turned off while you do that. The dust that builds up on these coils directly affects the cooling efficiency of your refrigerator. So, clean those coils at least once in every two weeks or once a week if you have pets.

4. Always close the freezer door properly

I always wondered why my freezer stopped making ice correctly while the rest of the refrigerator was working fine. It was because I filled up the freezer too much (a part of it was filled with ice build up due to my lazy habits of defrosting) and then the door could never be shut properly. It obviously resulted in leakage of cooling and hence, I did pay extra on energy bills and make my appliance work too hard than it should. I was lucky not to need an appliance repair rockville call after putting my freezer through all this. Don’t take chances with your appliance.

5. Make sure freezer is at a balanced position

Check the position of your freezer. Is it properly fitted? And does it seem to be in a proper balance? If not, you need to adjust it. Don’t do it yourself as it’s a tricky task. For this, you cannot avoid calling an appliance repair silver spring guy. You can easily find one for an affordable price at Same Day Pros, so bear this one-time cost and then forget about spending more on freezer repair!
