Navratri - Navratri, practically interpreted as 'nine evenings' is the most famous Hindu festival specialized in Goddess Durga symbolizing purity and ability or 'shakti'. Navratri happening combines ritualistic puja and fasting and is also combined with resplendent festivities for nine consecutive days and nights and evenings. Navratri in India follows the lunar calendar which is celebrated in March/April as Chaitra Navratri and in September/October as Sharad Navratri.

During Navratri, folks from villages and metropolitan areas accumulate to execute 'puja' on small shrines representing different facets of Goddess Durga, including Goddess Goddess and Lakshmi Saraswati. Chanting of mantras and renditions of bhajans and folk songs usually accompany the puja rituals for nine consecutive days of Navratri.

Navratri get-togethers are seeped in traditional music and party. Gujarat is the concentration of Navratri festivities with all night-long festivities and party. 'Navratri Garba' is a devotional dance form that derives from the folklore of Lord Krishna singing and dancing with the gopis using 'dandiya' or slim wooden sticks. 'Raas Garba' in addition has evolved to add steps like 'Dodhiyu', 'Trikoniya', 'Lehree' and many others. Goddess Durga is worshipped for the first three times of Navratri accompanied by Goddess Laxmi for another three days. Previous three times of Navratri are specialized in Goddess Saraswati.
