When you put the advantages of the smaller vans and the disadvantages of the bigger vans alongside for a comparison, you can easily see the point:

Advantages of the small moving vans

  • They offer a greater fuel efficiency when travelling at longer distances. They may not have the fuel-economy advantage of the bigger removal vans, but there is no doubt that a small van requires quite less fuel.
  • They are easy for loading, thanks to a lower ramp that makes the handling and lifting of big heavy items easier. Although the smaller storage space, the smaller storage space means that your possessions are with a smaller volume, which will definitely reduce the time for loading and unloading the van.
  • Space-saving opts. Some removal companies and especially with man and a van services provide numerous space-saving specs for their vans. From opts for lowering the rear seats for more space, to interior straps and ropes for securing the boxes in height - a small moving van can fit much more boxes than you have imagined.
  • Easier driving through the narrow streets of the big cities. This makes the small vans perfect if you plan to move in a new flat in the city center. There is no need to worry about where to park a giant van for a couple of hours, nor to worry how the van will make the turns in the center of the city. The small vans are better to avoid the traffic jams as well.
  • Of course, the small vans are cheaper than the big ones. This makes the option of hiring only a small van and doing everything else by yourself, one of the best opts when moving house on a budged.
  • The small vans are perfect for small furniture removals. There is no need to hire a big van and pay extra fees for a big van only to move a couple boxes with furniture. If you properly dismantle and arrange the furniture in the small van - they could fit flawlessly for a one-course relocation instead of going back and forth.

Cons of the big removal vans

  • A higher initial cost for renting/booking. Moving with a bigger vehicle can really require a major part from your total budged for the relocation.
  • The big vehicles are just big, which makes them inappropriate when moving in big bustling cities with a lot of road traffic and traffic jams. You should inform the neighbours to free extra parking space for the huge van. Or else, you should wait for the late night hours or for the early morning hours for the loading and unloading procedures when the traffic is less.
  • The big removal vans require hiring at least one man to help with your relocation. This means higher price of the removal services, while in most cases the bigger vans require two, three or more professional movers.
  • There is a risk of not using the entire storage space of the big van, which means that you will pay for unused storage space. It is important to find a van with the perfect storage volume for your belongings.
  • Sometimes, the big vans might be not that comfortable for driving than the smaller ones. You may need at least a few hours to get used to the higher front seats if you plan to hire only a big van.
