If you are looking for some beautiful place to get lost in, book your flights to Port Blair, the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and also the gateway to a fabulous holiday. The city houses a huge number of attractions for families, kids as well as couples.

If you delve into the history of the region, you will know that it has been a witness to the country's freedom struggle. Many buildings, museums and art galleries offer great insights into the ancient times and reveal the culture and history of the island. The Cellular Jail is one of the most significant of these standing evidences.

The major attractions include:

Cellular Jail: The colonial prison, also known as Kalapani, was the place where the British executed rebels to keep them away from the independence struggle. Built in 1896, it is today a National Memorial. A sound and lights show every evening in English and Hindi takes you back to the colonial times and brings forth the history of the island.

Ross Island: This beautiful piece of paradise will treat you with picturesque views in every direction. In the past, the island served as the headquarters of the British colony in Andaman. Ruins from the British period include buidlings such as Chief Commissioners' House, Presbyterian Church, state ball room and an old bakery.

North Bay Island Andaman: For underwater enthusiasts, North Bay is an absolute delight. The colourful coral reefs and diverse marine life offer an unforgettable experience to scuba divers and snorkelers. The white sandy beaches surrounded by the serene beauty are for those who love to sit back, relax and enjoy nature without interruption.

Corbyn's Cove: This is one of the more popular beaches of the island and is therefore more crowded too. It is at a distance of only 8 kilometres from Port Blair and is packed with numerous entertainment options such as jet skiing, motor scooter, swimming, sunbathing and surfing.

Viper Island: This tranquil and scenic island has had a dark past in the colonial times. It housed the old jail where prisoners from the freedom struggle were imprisoned, tortured and hanged to death. The remnants offer the story of the past to the visitors. Besides, tourists also explore the tranquillity and the interesting landscapes of the island.

Anthropological Museum: This small but interesting museum is a must visit for history buffs and culture enthusiasts as it showcases the life of the original inhabitants of the entire region, the different tribes that existed, their lifestyle and traditions.

The months between October and March are the best period to visit Port Blair. Plan a trip well in advance, book domestic flights and save big on your Andaman holidays.
