Window films or tinted films are thin laminates designed to be installed on the interior of the windows in vehicles, residential houses, commercial and public buildings. These films are made from polyester which has high tensile strength and excellent adaptability for use with various types of surface-applied practices and applications. Various substances are mixed with the polyester to increase its strength, durability, and reflective qualities.

The primary purpose of installing tinted films on a glass surface is to reduce the heat and glare caused by direct sunlight. But, it also serves to add and maintain privacy. Window films can be classified on the basis of performance and aesthetics like dyed, metalized, and ceramic.

Installation of tinted films has become essential in commercial buildings. The absence of adequate measures leads to an uncomfortable working environment due to the buildup of heat and sun hotspots, creating a greenhouse effect. This can be countered with air-conditioning, but the elevated energy use and utility bills are not desirable from environmental and economic perspectives. On a smaller scale, the same holds true for houses.

The features and advantages of tinted window films are described here.

  • Heat Protection: This is the major and most important
function of window films. The use of tinted films have become popular because air conditioners are only able to control the temperature inside cars or buildings – they cannot reduce the heat and sunlight coming in through the windows. The heat and sunlight entering your space not only cause discomfort but also puts stress on the air conditioner. In a way, it also impacts your electricity or fuel expenses which, in turn, have a detrimental effect on the environment. Plus, harsh direct sunlight can also damage valuable artifacts, delicate furniture, or sunlight sensitive equipment.

  • UV Protection: Tinted films with UV reflective coating are able to reject almost 90% of harmful UV-rays. UV radiation from direct sunlight exposure is a major cause of skin cancer and various other skin diseases. UV-rays can also damage furniture, & car interiors. Standard non-tinted films can reject UV rays of wavelength up to 380nm and with added UV inhibitors, they can reject UV rays up to 400nm. But tinted films with UV inhibitors are necessary to reject UV wavelengths of up to 500nm.
  • Glass Protection: If you have children in your home, window films are a must. Kids like to draw and paint on walls and window glass. Having protective films on window panes will not only protect the glass from their attempts at graffiti but also prevent scratches and dirt buildup on the glass surface. In the event of an accident or breakage, the glass with window film would not shatter, and the pieces will remain in their place. In such conditions, window films are highly useful.
  • Privacy: With standard tinted films, nobody would ever notice what is happening inside your home. You may want to spend some alone time with yourself to watch the view outside or admire the landscape. In such moments, window films provide you adequate privacy to follow your desire without the risk of prying eyes. Nobody would ever notice what you are doing inside your home, as it should be. In cars, there are some legal regulations attached with the use of tinted window films, and they have a certain visibility quotient that cannot be ignored. In this case, the subject becomes a matter of law.
  • Safety and Security: Tinted window films installed on your car, home, and office windows can also grant you protection from unfavorable and bad elements of society. They would not be able to see any valuables and household items of if anyone staying alone at home or not.
