Kidneys play a vital role in maintenance of the body by excreting wastes from the body. The Greek word "nephros" means "kidney" with the "neph" in nephrology relating to the makeup and function of the kidneys. There are millions of nephrons in the kidneys that work together as a blood filter and regulator of water and soluble substances (i.e., sodium). They are expertise in dealing with problems like kidney stones, kidney blockages and kidney cancer. They are qualified to perform surgery and outpatient medical procedures to correct such problems. Patient can be referred to Urologists for wide range of disorders like Urinary bladder problems, ureter diseases, anatomical problems affecting kidney, adrenal and male reproductive organs.

While, Nephrologists are medical specialists who deals with disorders which affect kidneys work like diabetes and chronic kidney diseases. They usually prescribe non surgical medical treatments for these sorts of disorders. It is considered as a specialty within the field of Internal medicine. The treatment method may include dialysis, balancing fluids within the body, regulating electrolytes, prescribing medicines and blood pressure regulation. If a patient is suffering from hypertension, acute kidney failure, chronic Urinary tract infection and Chronic Kidney Diseases he/she can refer to a Nephrologist.
