The AA meetings that alcoholics attend are meant to help them recover from the shackles of their addiction. The addiction of alcohol can ruin someone's life. Making it to the meeting on a regular base and achieving any level of sobriety is a big deal because, believe it or not, getting rid of alcohol addiction is a difficult task. Usually a milestone is celebrated by providing AA chips that are a sign of how much you have gained from the meeting and how much your life has improved after going to them. An AA chip or medallion is a symbol of the problem you faced and overcame.

Being an addict or under the influence of alcohol is dangerous. People are usually addicted to something, but being addicted to alcohol or drug or something that can make you lose your head can be disastrous for your life and future. When people find themselves in trouble because of their addiction, they feel lost and unable to get through it. The support of a friend and family members help them to get over the addiction. But before the support is realized, the addict should be able to admit to himself or herself that he or she is facing a problem and needs help. This is the first step of losing any addiction.

When this first step is taken, a person can plan out what sorts of steps he or she wants to take to get rid of the problem. Some people get through with it with the help of doctors, while others go to rehabs and turn their lives around. Though people do find peace within rehab centers, the temptation of alcohol consumption can return anytime. To avoid such a situation and to make sure that you are never tempted in the future people join alcohol anonymous groups. These groups comprise of people who have faced the similar issues in the past and are recovering themselves. Addiction doesn’t leave you and you need support of those who have been in the same situation. They celebrate their fight against addiction with small gestures like AA chips.

AA chips are usually normal chips which are given to recovering addicts who have shown tremendous courage and effort in getting rid of alcohol. They are awarded by the sponsor of the person and are source of great inspiration amongst alcoholics. Some support groups also provide AA medallions and other sort of medals that can signify an anniversary. The core of these is to make sure that the recovering alcoholic can track the time he or she has given to the recovery and how far he or she is able to come.

The support groups are usually anonymous so that people in the group cannot be tracked. The recovering alcoholics have to attend the meetings regularly and have to share their life stories. This sharing gives them the opportunity to reflect upon their lives with their friends and support members. These meetings also give them a place to share their pains and losses due to alcoholism and its addiction. You can buy these chips at http://www.my12stepstore.com/.
