Planning a Fairy Garden while Sipping Coffee with a Friend

In this busy world for humans (and fairies too) it is sometimes hard to stay in contact with our oldest and dearest friends. It really is not a lack of effort (maybe more a lack of energy). However, I have recently discovered the power of a big pot of coffee and a table full of fairy gardening supplies is a good way to reconnect with old friends. One of my biggest addictions, especially when the weather starts to cool off, is a cup of hot coffee to start the morning right. Many of my friends share this love because of how much we work, how many chores we have to do, and this time of year yard work is a big part of the equation too. That is when I decided to invite a friend over for some coffee and some mini gardening. At first, she was a little taken aback but I gathered miniature accessories and containers that reminded me of her and my friendship.

She is unfortunately moving out of state this week and I wanted her to have something (small and sweet) to remember our friendship. Since coffee dates have been such a large part of our friendship I decided to decorate her miniature garden with a bistro set of a table and chairs, coffee cups, and two silly fairies who remind me us. Mine of course had a book in her hand and her fairy was graciously gardening. After deciding on containers, we picked out a few miniature succulents to plant and we selected a fun fairy sign that says "HAPPY HALLOWEEN" since it is a holiday we both love and it is coming up to that time of the year.

She was so excited by what we created she had to video chat her mom to show her the fairy gardens. It was the perfect ‘going away’ present for one of my closest friends. We finished that pot of coffee with windows open, allowing the cool fall air to surround us. It is great when a pot of coffee, and miniature gardening can bring friends together. This is not the first time I have shared my love of mini gardening with my other friends. It is an easy hobby to fall into, and to love forever. You can make it as simple or as complex as you wish it to be. I am lucky that most of my friends, who love crafts, cannot help but fall for an activity that can be shared with friends, small children, crafting circles, and even your online community of artists who share their great ideas amongst each other.

Do not be afraid to share fairy gardening with others and to try new things – you will be pleasantly surprised when you go outside your comfort zone to discover unique things you are able to create yourself. I know with the holidays coming up I am going to create a couple "fairy accessory grab bags" for those who are near and dear to me, but haven’t dipped their toes into the miniature gardening world yet. I want them to try it, love it, and be able to share that time and energy with me, while we share countless ideas with each other. I know I recently received a "crafting grab bag" about sewing from a dear friend and I have fallen back into using my sewing machine to sew fairy accessories of tiny pillows and tablecloths. I am just blown away by what hobbies you can discover on your own and what projects others can inspire you to try.
