Things to ascertain before foray into the world of Sports Scholarships
Posted: Oct 24, 2016
Sports scholarships are one of the best ways to secure a college education in US university. With a range of highly coveted programs that provide a solid base to the intellectual and education of the students-athletes, they are not easy to get along for the reason that there are limited seats and a burgeoning number of applications for the same. Although this should not be taken as a discouragement.
With proper planning and a few principles in place, talented student-athletes always have a chance to make it through the scholarships they deserve. Before you start contacting the coaches for a probable scholarship, set up your game plan by practicing the following fundamentals:
Get a good understanding of the divisions and the programs available:
It is always better to know in details about your battle ground before making the strategies.
Within the National Collegiate Athletic association, there are three divisions and all of hem have their certain rules when it comes to the sports scholarships. It is highly recommended to know them in details.
Determine your academic goals before making the plunge:
You should look into colleges that fit you academically and socially, as well as athletically. Remember that for most student athletes, it is their academics, not their athletics, that determine a successful college and professional career.
Ascertain the requirement of the program and accelerate towards the standards:
Talk to your coaches—high school, club, and athletic camp—and gather as many informed opinions about where you could compete at the college level. Depending on the level of experience and connections your coaches have, they may be valuable resources for you in your athletic scholarship search.
Understand the overall recruitment process:
For most student athletes, the official recruiting season for the majority of sports begins on July 1 in the summer after junior year and it ends with the official admissions letter from the college. During this time, there are several possible stages in the process, including initial identification; follow-up print contact; phone contact; official or unofficial visits; home visits; letter of intent/scholarship offer; and official support from the coach.
It is always better to know the process and understand its intricacies before starting with the self recruitment process. Self recruitment deals with making yourself known to coaches through a variety of medium like introduction emails and letters, YouTube videos and other such tools which have become apart of the process.
