People once dreaded sending their loved ones to nursing homes. Nursing homes were referred to as old folk's homes, and were places senior citizens dreaded going to. However today, with advancement in technology and time, nursing home care centers have come a long way.

They may not be perfect in any means, but are in more ways than one, much better than their predecessors. It is basically the increased oversight of nursing homes that has lead to the improvement of nursing home in shanghai.

People requiring everyday help:

Nursing homes are basically meant for two types of people. The first group of people is those who need help in even their everyday, daily chores. These people cannot do their everyday work on their own and thus need help with activities like bathing, preparing meals, getting dressed and even to go to the bathroom.

Usually, it is senior citizens who need all this help. However at times, there are also many young people who need help at nursing home in shanghai as they have mental or physical disabilities and are dependant on others for most of their daily work.

People requiring temporary help:

The second group of people who look for residence in nursing home in shanghai are people who need short term care. These people are generally recovering from injuries, surgeries and other conditions, and just need some temporary help with their daily work till they can get back on their feet. There are usually rehab wings found in nursing homes where these people live.

All the nursing home care units in Shanghai today have to meet certain requirements. Most important, it needs to have a nurse ready on staff, 24 hours a day on all days of the week to meet all sorts of health and medical needs their residents require. In addition to this, the nurse has to meet some stringent requirements to qualify for Medicaid, Medicare and other government funding programs.

Never think that the higher is the cost of the nursing home, the better will be its services. Always make an inspection of the nursing home before sending your loved one to it. It's better to ask the church, your family physician and other people you respect for suggestions and views about different nursing homes.
