Gone are the days when everyone wants to pursue the conventional course either in the engineering or medicine domains. With the advent of unparalleled technology, individuals across the country are all in for trying out unconventional courses that shape them into a different person altogether. Among the numerous disciplines that are available in the present day, people are pursuing contemporary courses in media, design, and architecture wherein they are breaking the conventional norms set by the society. With the surging demand for such courses, individuals are finding their true passion by trying out various options, which until the last decade was deemed impossible.

Though there has been a considerable growth in various domains, one can attest to the fact that design has been the field that has always grown beyond the known potential. From the neolithic age to the 21st century, design has always been relevant irrespective of everything that is happening around us. While designs like the wheel, shaped the future of modern humans, other design innovations in the fields of communication, industries, and fashion have lead to greater development for the humankind.

Since design has earned its reputation as a very coveted field at the present age, there have been numerous measures to ensure only the best candidates get the chance to pursue this esteemed course. In India, design has always held a reputation of being one of the essential pillars of the society, thanks to its rich and vibrant culture. With so many young Indians wishing to learn design-oriented courses, the best design institutions in India like the National Institute of Design, Maaer's Master's Maharastra Institute of Technology – Institute of Design, Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology, have organized an exam which analyzes the students on every front to ensure their competence. Whilst there is a common exam for all the engineering institutions, the same cannot be said about design, where each and every institution has a specialized exam to meet their demands.

The National Institute of Design and Maeer’s Maharastra Institute of Technology – Institute of Design have the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) followed by the studio interview, whereas the Srishti Institute of Art, Design and Technology has the Srishti Entrance and Aptitude Test (SEAT) after which the shortlisted candidates are selected for a portfolio interview and counseling. With these exclusive entrance examinations, the universities wish to select the students based on their offerings and specializations. The introduction of Avantika University, an MIT, Pune initiative, paves a new way for students who have the privilege of choosing between two design institutes which are in the course of becoming the most sought after design institutions in the country.

All in all, it is up to the individuals and their interests areas that will help them decide their specialization and institution where they can pursue the course from.
