Since 1992, Michigan's premier online library resource, MeL, or the Michigan eLibrary, gives residents free access to numerous resources such as books, research for K-14 as well as early literacy materials, photos, and books. Additionally, it aids Michigan residents in finding books and other library materials through a network of 400+ libraries and then having those items delivered to their closest participating library. MeL also assists users in locating historical records and carries materials on some particular areas of interest such as car repair, genealogy and consumer health.

MeL introduced the business portal, MeL Business, in July 2016 in an effort to encourage businesses in Michigan to utilize its available tools for the establishment and success of individual businesses. The portal includes a series of four videos comprised of business professionals and librarians delving into the different methods aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners can use MeL's Business eResources to suit their individual needs.

View these useful videos on the portal's landing page or jump over to MeL's YouTube channel to watch these and other informative clips, which teach individuals key information needed to Start.Grow.Support.Succeed in their business endeavors.

MeL offers several free eResources to Michigan residents including business-to-consumer market data, global and business industry insights, demographic assessments, a guide to Michigan legal forms, and much more. Users will also find information on funding, operations, and how to grow their business.

MeL hosted a Twitter Chat on Sept. 13 aimed at discussing the all-new MeL Business gateway using the hashtag #MeLBizChat. It was a discussion about all the website has to offer entrepreneurs and business professionals. The event turned out to be a hit with the public. Participants included business service partners and Michigan residents discussing the importance of the research and data found on the website.

MeL Business supplies these informative resources and support for those interested in starting and developing a business. The main goal of the website is to be a free resource to improve resident economies and teach smaller businesses, like sole proprietors and microbusinesses, how to succeed. Connect with MeL using Twitter. Try using the hashtags #MeLBusiness or #EduTech when reaching out. Even if you are simply researching the possibilities, MeL Business is here to supply you with business connections and the tools you require to get off to a solid start.
