Benefits of Pursuing Medicine in the United States: Study MBBS in USA, Practice
Posted: Nov 16, 2016
Studying MBBS in USA is easy for Indian students who want a career in global healthcare and medicine. The United States pursues a different MBBS system. MBBS in USA is actually known as MD/MS and qualifies you as a postgraduate in the field of medicine. This is why an MBBS from USA is highly prized in the field of medicine.
A More Comprehensive System of Education
US follow a curriculum for obtaining a medical degree and license to practice. Rather than India's system of MBBS followed by MD, they have a four-year pre-Med or undergraduate program, another four years as a post-grad MD and then the USMLE or United States Medical Licensing Examination. Following this, the student is given a license to practice medicine in the United States.
A Prestigious Degree
According to the Specialized Professional Study by education USA, less than 3 percent of global applicants were accepted into med school. Bear in mind that there is also a period of clinical rotation of externship/clerkship to get the bachelor degree. MD degree is only the first step to becoming a medical practitioner in the United States. USMLE-2 (CK and CS) need to be passed. Then the student has to pursue a PG level program called Residency.
The entrance may be highly competitive, but the exams are a way to ensure the degree remains high in prestige and value in the medical world. Numbers of years depend on specialization chosen but the doctor of medicine would work in the hospital for 3-6 years.
Benefits Unlimited
MCI (Medical Council of India) permits students to get registered without MCI exam if they have pursued and successfully completed a degree in medicine from the US. During residency, doctors earn USD 3500-5500 during the residency in the USA (4 years) so the cost of recovery of fees you have paid is virtually nil. MBBS in USA for Indian medicos is more valued than an Indian degree and less costly...the ultimate paradox in the field of medical studies.
With so many benefits, it is small wonder that a massive percentage of India students head to foreign shores in America, to learn not only the essence of medical theory but its ethical and skilled practice as well.
