Even if we're talking about mechanical, electrical, thermal or any other kind of energy that powers some machines or equipment, they are all extremely unsafe for its users if handled incorrectly. Considering the high amount of accidents, a series of regulations and procedures was needed. This is when the "Occupational Safety and Health Administration" (OSHA) decided to implement the Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO). They were created to protect the workers from the hazardous energy. More specific, the lockout / tagout procedure is used in a large mechanical / electrical system. After a hazardous system is shut off, it has to be secured so that no one else could access it without permission. This procedure must be applied during every servicing session or maintenance of the machines or equipment.
