Once diagnosed with cancer, many people feel it’s the end of the world. They feel as if they’ve just been handed a death sentence, so they start preparing for their exit from this world.

Cancer might be a deadly disease, but it doesn’t always result in death. According to the National Cancer Institute, about 14 million people lived beyond a cancer diagnosis in 2014 and this figure will most likely reach 19 million by 2024.

This is not only a great achievement for the medical practitioners; it is also a big relief for cancer patients. Today, there are effective cancer treatments available but early detection makes the job easier for oncologists.

Also, the kind of treatment a cancer patient gets typically depends on the level and severity of the cancer. In the light of this, here are the different techniques that are used to cure cancer in modern times.

Prevention

Not having cancer at all is still the best cure that I know. That doesn’t that sound weird, does it? Already, it has been projected that almost 40 percent of men and women will be diagnosed with cancer once during their lifetimes. So there’s the probability of getting it.

To prevent cancer, you should avoid eating canned food, purify your water, avoid using the microwave, reduce your exposure to toxins, and use natural beauty products.

Radiation therapy

Radiation therapy involves the use of wave particles to damage the cancer cells. This technique has proven effective over the years in the treatment of cancer. It is mostly as both curative and palliative measures depending on the condition of the patient.

Although the radiation therapy limits damage to other parts of the body, it can sometimes have long-term side effects such as growth of scar tissue and infertility

Proton therapy

This is an improvement on the radiation therapy which provides a healthier alternative. One of the biggest merits of this system is that it limits the risk of damage to nearby healthy tissue because of its high precision in targeting the affected tumor.

According to the proton center, the proton therapy is very effective in the treatment of cancerous tumors, prostate cancer, brain cancer, ocular cancer, childhood cancer, and the non-cancerous tumors.

Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy is simply the use of medications in the treatment of cancer. Unlike the radiation and proton therapies that allow you to focus on the specific tumors, chemotherapy drugs can work throughout the body.

One of the downsides of chemotherapy is that the administered drugs can damage both cancer cells and normal cells in the body. Therefore great care must be taken when administering the drugs. One way to ensure that the administered drugs work effectively is to combine them with other drugs.

Surgery

Cancer surgery is performed to physically remove cancer from the body. Often times, cancer itself is removed along with other tissues of the body to avoid any traces of residues.

Other than just removing cancer from the body, this surgery can also be performed for the purpose of diagnosis, staging, debulking, relieve symptoms, or for cancer prevention.
