How to Keep the Dust to a Minimum
Posted: Nov 22, 2016
We all love spending time in our homes and taking a good care of them, so we can invite our friends and family to a warm and welcoming home. So, we clean, vacuum the carpet, wipe and wash until everything sparkles perfectly clean. But no matter how careful and carrying we are towards the hygiene in our homes, there are still some things, which stay neglected. But not because we don't care, but because the dirt is so stubborn, that it comes back right after we have taken care of it. I'm talking about the dust, of course. It settles all around the house, especially in the carpet and upholstered furniture. We keep dusting and wiping it off on a regular basis, but it always comes back right on the next day. And we think this is normal, but it actually isn't. Do you know there is a way to keep the dust to a minimum, just by following a few rules? Well, if you didn't know, now you will.
Declutter and store. The biggest reason we have lots of dust at home, is because we have lots of items in it and lots of surfaces where dust can settle and stay without being bothered. This is why, if you want to live in a dust free house, you need to make it more difficult for dust to settle. You should look around your home and make some changes. Check your shelves and cabinets for unnecessary items, which only stay there, because there's no other place for them. You should try to get rid of as much of those as you can. They only lay there and are dust catchers. If you want, you can store them in some drawers or in a wardrobe, but don't leave them laying like this, because it's simply unhealthy. The best decision you can make to keep the dust to a minimum, is to get rid of the clutter.
Dry or wet mop? This is another question, which bothers home owners – do they need to clean the floor with a dry or wet mop? Some people think that the wet mop is the better alternative, because this way the dust particles get stuck to the mop and don't come back anymore. But the fact is, that the wet floor attracts way more new dust particles, which get stuck to it very well just minutes after you have cleaned. This is why the specialists advise people to wipe their floors with a dry microfibre mop. This way the dust particles are still being wiped, but you don't attract new ones to the floor.
Vacuum the carpet. This is a quite simple answer actually, but still many people forget about the advantages the modern vacuum cleaner gives their carpets. When you clean the carpet using a simple broom, you manage to swipe the general dirt off it, but what you don't see is, that you also irritate millions of dust particles, which get into the air and land on your furniture and appliances. But when you clean the carpet using a vacuum cleaner, all the dust gets sucked in, which is definitely the better alternative. The vacuum cleaner reduces the danger of catching any allergies and makes your lives a lot better and easier. Licensed housekeepers recommend daily vacuuming in order to prevent dust from settling in the fabrics.
Air filters. This is another very important point, which quite often is forgotten by home owners. How can you keep the dust to a minimum, if your air filters aren't helping you? Many people even forget they have them. And after a while, these filters stop working and the dust can get right through them and into your home. And I'm sure nobody wants that. This is why you should change your filters on a regular basis and make sure they work properly.
